Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion: Does She Deserve Jail Time?

Singer Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty Friday morning to tax evasion. She could face up to three years in jail if she's not able to pay back what she owes before her November sentencing. Hill's attorney claims that she is being targeted by the federal government because of her celebrity status.

Hill gave her side of the story in a lengthy blog post a couple weeks ago, stating she had to go underground in order to protect her family from being "manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex”. While "underground" she claims to have used all of her resources to protect her family instead of paying her taxes. What do you think? Is Hill being unjustly targeted by the government or does she deserve jail time?

The former Fugee failed to file three years of taxes.

Guilty of a unjust law. So what. It's like you're proud of the fact the IRS (strong arm of the federal reserve) steals your money and threatens you with jail time for none payment. Be a good little slave now and run along.

Yeah how's that working for you? You see the Government is a lot like the Military they won't force you to do anything including pay taxes, but when all is said and done when they are done with you, you will wish you would have just played by the rules. What is so damn difficult about paying your share. If you don't like it leave the damn country because you sure as well are not going to change it.

Because "Your Share" is given away without your consent to lord knows who. There was no IRS until 1913 oh yea and isn't that when the fraudulent Federal Reserve was created? Yes.... Like I said run along and be a good little slave to the private bank that steals from you before you even see your check. While you're at it if you haven't already go and read the Grace Commission Report.

You're right. I alone am not going to change it but if people like you stop being slaves and realize you're being robbed we can all change it. This man made 200 million tax free. I can't make 10 dollars tax free.

I have always paid my share and still managed to retire at 55. I don't care abut excuses, did I what I was required to do and haven't had to worry about IRS checking on me. Life is too short got more important things to do than screw around with the IRS.

Nothing wrong with being a nice little slave to the system. Many people feel the same way you do. None of the above are "excuses" like you call them. They are proof the system's rules are only for the "little people"

Well like I said I retired at 55 and did I mention from the DOD probably another entity you don't care for. Best wishes on enjoying your efforts to circumvent the system, a waste of time and not too bright but have fun

Nothing wrong with the DOD. It's not defense and should consider a name change but that's another conversation in itself.

If she doesn't pay she does, she deserves the same treatment as anybody else would get, she is not special.

True, she deserves what anyone else would get. No American deserves to go to jail or be fined for not paying unconstitutional income taxes, including the singer. And she isn't all that famous - I'd never heard of her before today.

Neither have I, and I would love to see tax reform, even a flat tax, but I also believe in living by the laws of the land, even if I don't like them, then I try to change them but I don't break them.

Me, too, I HATE paying taxes, but I've faithfully paid them my entire life, never missing a deadline. But I still think they are wrong and that the government is more wrong than the person trying to protect what is rightfully his.

You bet it is!! I feel badly she was found guilty. Must have been a lot of socialists who didn't want their welfare to stop because of nonpayment by the employed.
