Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion: Does She Deserve Jail Time?

Singer Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty Friday morning to tax evasion. She could face up to three years in jail if she's not able to pay back what she owes before her November sentencing. Hill's attorney claims that she is being targeted by the federal government because of her celebrity status.

Hill gave her side of the story in a lengthy blog post a couple weeks ago, stating she had to go underground in order to protect her family from being "manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex”. While "underground" she claims to have used all of her resources to protect her family instead of paying her taxes. What do you think? Is Hill being unjustly targeted by the government or does she deserve jail time?

The former Fugee failed to file three years of taxes.

No; actually celebrities don't get away with that whether it was due to their incompetence or the IRS just scamming again. The people who get away with it are usually billionaires like Warren Buffet.

Anyone could if they can afford what they didn't pay, but here is the thing. Some taxes are voluntary and people don't have to pay them. What the IRS usually does is drag some of these people through long legal fees from going to court, by the time you have won you would be broke. Don't you think that is thuggery?

I have a few relatives who use to work in the IRS and they purposely scam people and there are certain taxes that are voluntary.

No one should pay taxes since none of this money is used for our benefit. Taxes only make wealthy the owners of the Federal Reserve Bank. The Rothschilds are wealthy enough. It's time they start backing our money again with gold and silver coinage that they have stored away in their vaults!

I hate being screwed over by the IRS, but I pay my taxes to avoid that very thing; imprisonment.

I feel you Melz, but the IRS scam people a lot of the time; maybe not in Lauryn case, but many others. There are some taxes that are even voluntary and most people don't have to pay them.
