Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion: Does She Deserve Jail Time?

Singer Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty Friday morning to tax evasion. She could face up to three years in jail if she's not able to pay back what she owes before her November sentencing. Hill's attorney claims that she is being targeted by the federal government because of her celebrity status.

Hill gave her side of the story in a lengthy blog post a couple weeks ago, stating she had to go underground in order to protect her family from being "manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex”. While "underground" she claims to have used all of her resources to protect her family instead of paying her taxes. What do you think? Is Hill being unjustly targeted by the government or does she deserve jail time?

The former Fugee failed to file three years of taxes.

But Bernie Madoff ripps off millions from people with no jail time. People who voted yes to paying the private banking system (The Federal Reserve) our tax money deserve what the banksters are doing to you. If the people who voted yes to this question can quote the law stating that we have to pay Federal Income taxes she can go to jail.

Just because she's a star, she shouldn't get away with breaking the law, especially Federal.

You people are still under the delusion that the Income Tax is legal and patriotic.
Read the IRC(internal revenue code). Show me where an individual is a corporation?
Show me where your occupation is listed as required to file and pay?
How about getting the IRS to show you an ODM number that the 1040 is even a legitimate document?

I don't care how much of a celebrity you are/were, if you did break the law then face the consequences and serve your time. Being well known doesn't mean anything when it comes to a situation like this.

She did the crime she can do the time just like any other person who's not a celebrity. No one likes paying taxes but it's something you have to do if you don't want this to happen. She has more money then the average person so suck it up and deal with it.

I cant believe some ot the people on SH. Our country is in so much trouble when I see people on here that still don't know that one of the biggest frauds in history next to 911 is paying a mandatory income tax. There is no law to comply.

Absolutely. So did Wesley Snipes and Charles Rangel.
The real question is: WHY are celebrities and Politicians not held to the laws of this country?
Besides all that, Lauren Hills excuse is wacky. She might as well said that Aliens from Outer Space told her not to pay her taxes. Toss her in jail and she will LEARN that she has to pay like everyone else.

It's not just in the U.S, we have a 'celebrity' in India that is here illegally without any visa, but the government is not trying to do anything! And she keeps making millions and millions of money.

As incredibly stupid and self-centered as her excuse was, I still don't think anyone deserves jail time if arrangements can be made to pay the money back. But she should probably hold off on the $10,000 facials and shopping sprees for a while.
