Although Larry Hagman passed away this week at the age of 81, he had done what few actors had accomplished before. He created not one but two iconic TV roles that will go down in history. And he pulled of the feat in both a comedy and a drama. Some fans will always think of him as Major Anthony Nelson, while others will remember him as J.R. Ewing. But either way, there’s no denying he made his mark on the small screen.

The son of actress Mary Martin, performing was in Hagman’s blood. He became a household name in 1965 playing the astronaut who found a magical bottle on “I Dream of Jeannie.” The kind but occasionally cranky officer was the perfect straight man to the woman with the inexplicable powers and killer abs. Then in 1978 Hagman took on a decidedly different part on the primetime soap opera “Dallas.” According to the two-time Emmy-nominee, even the Queen of England was left asking the question on everyone’s lips at the end of the show’s second season — “Who Shot J.R.?” Earlier this year, Hagman resurrected the role for an updated version of the classic series, reuniting with his former castmates and friends Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray.
Hagman had over 100 credits to his name at the time of his death. But odds are he’ll be best recalled for one of those two roles. What do you think: Will you remember him as Major Nelson or J.R. Ewing?

R.I.P Larry Hagman .
I really liked what he wanted written on his head stone
I'm paraphrasing "Here lays JR Ewing an upright citizen, this is the only deal I ever lost!" LOL
Rest in peace Mr Hagman.
