Lance Armstrong Admits to Oprah That He Doped: Honest Admission or Anticlimactic?

It is being reported that in a highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lance Armstrong has admitted to doping in order to win the Tour de France. Allegations have been swirling around the bicyclist for years, but he has always firmly denied the charges until now.

On Monday, he apologized to the staff at his cancer charity Livestrong for putting the organization at risk and asked them to continue the fight, promising to help rebuild their reputation. Then he went to a nearby hotel and sat with Oprah for three hours for what is being called an “emotional” interview where he cleared his conscience. Prior to doing the interview, he told an AP reporter, ''I'm calm, I'm at ease and ready to speak candidly.''

No one knew exactly how candid he would be, but apparently he came clean, admitting to taking performance-enhancing drugs. He had already been stripped of his titles, banned from the sport and forced to resign from Livestrong. It seems like it was just a matter of time before he’d tell the truth about what really happened and many speculate it is the reason he agreed to do the interview with Oprah.

But was anybody really surprised by the news? After all we’ve been hearing these allegations for almost a decade now. What do you think? Is this an honest admission or anticlimactic?

All or almost all of those Tour de France entrants are doping.

Lance is targeted because he is American.

They hate him for showing them up so often.

Remember, he never failed a urine test, and they convicted him and banned him ANYWAY.

you fool some of the people some of the time. he's still lying so that insome areas he won't be prosecuted. he ruined lives for which he is responsible at least civillygangstered up the sport enough so that it should be banned froolympics until it can be reconstituded and reborn anew.

Not that it matters but i think he was honest. At least he finally admitted it. He didnt have to. He could have continued on as he was. So thats better then doing that. Good point about him possibly seeing how others doing the same thing would react.

Sorry Lance, most don't care about you. After what the baseball players did in the 90's, you are old news. And oprah, go back to retirement, you are without a doubt done.

How can it be climactic. None of these sports confessions are surprising anymore. It's to be expected. Moving on.

I think he would have gone on with the Charade had the evidence not been piled up against him. I feel badly for his children. They have to live with the fallout from his decision to deceive.

Big deal... it's just a sport like football, baseball, basketball or anything else. In the end it's about as important as the color of the keyboard I am typing this on.

Basketball players should take drugs that make them grow 12 feet tall. Linemen on football teams should weigh in at 500+ pounds of bone, hair and muscle with receivers and defensive backs able to run 50 mph and offensive backs able to do that as well as having massive throwing arms that can send the ball down the field at 100 mph. Cyclists should use drugs to build massive legs that would allow them to pedal up the mountains at 100 MPH if they want. All of them should do things to make there blood work better.

Sports are entertainment at best... the entertainers should at least be entertaining.

That dude lies like a cyote. I hope that the sports of bicycle racing and
rallyes can continue, but sans Lance Armstrong and any others like
him who's conduct corrupts and brings shame to the sport of bicycling,
and to Olympic, College, and Pro sports in general.

The man had testicular cancer, had one of them removed (that's got to swing odd in the shower) went through chemo and because of doping had the stamina of a 20 year old and could ride a bike for 6 hours. Why aren't we all doping?

If you think that they all are not doping you are kidding yourself. There are many athletes that dope and get away with it. I was in body building for years and there were very few that were clean.

I disagree. He lied aggressively and did his best, with some considerable success, to ruin or besmirch those who told the truth about him. This, not the act of doping, is what makes him a despicable character.

Lying did not help him beat cancer! When you se a commercial wanting you to make a donation to fight cancer, DO NOT DONATE! There are many really good and honest groups who are fighting cancer. You will NEVER SEE THEM ADVERTISE! Do your homework and find the ones who spend a majority on finding a cure. Not the ones selling pink bracelets!
People are sufferinf while the American Cancer Society is sitting on a $5 billion dollar, interest earning savings account!!!!!

But honestly close to 100% of professional bicyclists have used or still use doping. The efforts that are asked from them is above what the human body can give. So they use doping. Everybody is responsible for the dopping, not only bicyclists.

It's about time he admitted the truth, and stopped pretending to be some kind of hero or role model. Kids, for one, need a genuine role model to look up to.

If you are talking to Oprah Winfrey, let alone making big admissions, you have no credibility. I had been defending him, but now he has lost all of my respect, no matter how much the French hate him.

We need a wall of shame. These guys simply hire PR firms, go public, bow their heads and tell a compelling story. It's the same for President Clinton as it was for all the others in sports, politics, public figures. I'm so tired of it because it doesn't mean anything except maybe they can still get book deals and speaking engagements. It's all BS. I'd seriously like a wall of shame and it should be named after him..
