Lady Gaga Launches Anti-Bullying Foundation: Will It Help?

After the tragic suicide of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer -- a self-proclaimed Gaga fan and "little monster" -- the pop queen has vowed to do all that she can to end bullying once and for all.

With the help of the MacArthur Foundation and Harvard University, Lady Gaga has launched an anti-bullying foundation aptly called the Born This Way foundation after her popular song and second album about being proud of who you are.

Gaga will lead the foundation with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, and according to her website, the project will "focus on youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development."

“My mother and I have initiated a passion project,” Gaga also added in a statement. “Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment.”

Hopefully, Gaga's popularity and mass appeal will only help improve the anti-bullying movement. After Rodemeyer's shocking death, Gaga promised to meet with President Obama -- which she later did at a fundraiser -- to discuss bullying. She also tweeted "The past days I’ve spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someone’s life.”

Do you think Lady Gaga's newest project, the Born This Way foundation, will help the anti-bullying cause?

    Absolutely!!

Disagree all you want, but Lady Gaga is HUGE. She's popular, already made her mark in history, and with this, it will turn more heads toward a GREAT cause.

This WILL prove useful. Lady Gaga is a GENIUS when it comes to grabbing attention of others. She is the PERFECT candidate for this sort of thing.

    Go, mother monster!!!

Hey I'm a homosexual basher from way back. Would'nt even think of doing harm to one of them but sure is fun to lock them in their closets.

Bashing and locking up... ANY bullying of homosexuals doesn't help anyone. It gives homosexual ammunition in comparing themselves to civil rights (which is an extremely offensive comparison) and it makes people who oppose homosexuality look bad.

We should treat EVERYONE with respect and affection, even if we think they are flushing our world down the toilet. No one ever changed their mind because of a beating.

Yea we did the same thing with Nazi Germany almost blew it their. Never give the opposition one inch. Come back at them with a vengence. Oh... no one every changed their mind because of a beating? Ask my kids. Ask the bully's I waylayed as a kid. Did'nt work the first time always had good odds it would the next time. Never believe in the kinder, gentler crap. Look where it's got us today. A world who hates us, and others taking advantage of us that don't deserve to be in this country. Yea sure works pilgrim. Toughen up America or you'll lose.

The BEST WAY to avoid "Bullying" and "BullyEED" and avoid the "BullyORD" is for one to mind one's own business . . . Gaga doesn't realize it; but eventually she is going to experience someone jumping right straight up her (his??) ass if she (he??) keeps attending places that she's (he's??) not wanted.

The only way to permanently deal with bullying is to not punish the good kids when they defend themselves. Let the kids punch the bully in the nose and they will stop picking on kids

The only way to stop the bully is to knock them down, take a stand for oneself. It will be a nice day when she passes into obscurity.

No no no no NO! There will ALWAYS be bullying in this world. Not everyone llistens to Lady Gaga, and this kind of stuff does not stay in peoples head. Just because your a celebrity does not mean you can change the world. Celebrities trying to make a change just annoy me. No, i'm not jealous, but they already do people a favor by making music. They don't need to be spokespeople too.

I thnk you're missing the point....most celebrities fund/help something like this.
They use their influence to help spread the message, and I think they have an obligation to do some form of work like this for the people; since they do make their money off the people.

I believe it will help, but only to an extent. As someone who was bullied in middle school, I think that school children will always be cruel but we can do our best to educate them properly.

Hatred and bigotry will always exist as long as there are people in the world, but at least we can lessen it. Good job, Gaga!

if anything it will encourage it more.
bullying is always gonna be around like wars,
    prostitution,sex,birth,death,the sun,the moon.

you just have to know how to identify it and get away from it.

some people bring it upon themselves because
they are different or awkward some people just need a good
@$$ kicking like the bullies themselves or the attention whores.

Her foundation is not the first on this issue--and as far as raising awareness, many public schools have prominent signage about that. So, only effect is self-promotion.

My highschool all but promoted bullying, because the ones doing it were in the JROTC at school (for the most part). My highschool didn't want to risk putting any bad name on the group so they shrugged it off, and allowed it to keep happening.

Will she help? Well, she couldn't hurt. Reality is, parents need to start stepping in and go back to raising their kids. Too many of them just run the streets and do what they want with little to no consequences for their actions.
My 9 year old was just physically attacked by five other kids because his friend came to our house go trick or treating with him. Out of the parents I spoke to about the incident, only one set took it seriously. The others...not a care in the world. Pretty messed up.

Bullying has always been part of mans nature, for his heart is wicked. It will continue regardless what lady goo has to say. Who can say that they themselves have never been bullied. You either let it roll off your back or you take the bully down.

The only thing that will end bullying, is parents that rear children with principals and morals. If a child has a sound foundation, and know right from wrong, the child will
treat others with compassion and empathy. Now this age of nothing is wrong and children
are taught that their emotions rule them, is the reason why youths can't destinguish
right actions from wrong behaviors. Parents need to discipline and provide a childhood
that has bounderies and instruction, too many parents leave this duties as a parent up
to the public schools and any adult that has an interest in affecting children good or bad.
Bottom line it is the parents responsibility to raise children that will grow sound and healthy. Lady Dip Witt is not going to do this.

Of course it will help- with a status like hers!

Let's hope so because it gets a billion times worse in adulthood because it happens in the workplace where they are protected with control and authority. And it looks different- the bullying is no longer physical but pyschological done by socially acceptable people who might even look like mice so you can't tell they are the bullies and plus they have impunity.

Gaga can no more "end" bullying than the Gov't "end" any of the things they've "declared" "war" on. Shed more exposure to it, yes. End it? No.

Say what you like, but why must you refute a singer's efforts to make better of society? I don't care what kind of content Lady Gaga produces in her music. I don't listen to her songs, but I'm willing to listen to her cause. She's obviously shown a lot of emotion for Rodemeyer, and one can only appreciate what she's done. Maybe it's not evident enough for other teenagers, but I can see her effect on many at my school already. It's not very clear. In fact, it's extremely subtle, but it's there. Individuals are more freely weird and quirky nowadays. It's become a bit of a trend to be different, which, though displayed for wrongful purposes sometimes, is still better than what we used to be.

Maybe I just have a bit more perspective than you due to my age - I went to HS in the 80's - and believe me, this pop singer didn't start a "trend to be different" - and back then, we looked to artists for inspiration and entertainment, not life instruction.
