Lady Gaga Gets a Concussion, Responds to Madonna: Is She Having a Bad Week?

This last week just hasn't been going Lady Gaga's way, but she's powering through like a champ. The pop star was hit in the head with a metal pole during a performance of "Judas" in New Zealand on Sunday. Hard. Later on during the show, she told the audience, "I want to apologize. I did hit my head and I think I may have a concussion. But don't you worry, I will finish this show." Check out the raw footage below.

But that wasn't all. She finally responded to Madonna's anti-Gaga tirade (Madge did a medley of Gaga's "Born This Way" and her own "Express Yourself" and chanted "she's not me" at the end of the song.) Gaga said in a speech on Thursday, "that doesn't make me feel good at all. That just makes me feel like I'm not being a good human being ... I don't even want to fight back because it's more important to me to keep writing music ... things are really different than they were 25 years ago, and that's what makes 'Born this Way' so relevant for me." Do you think Gaga's going through a rough week?

And sounds like rather than complain, she's getting up and moving forward.

As for Madonna - she's in a downward spiral that hit the bottom and then broke through and kept going.

Obviously, Lady Gaga is not having a great week.

I have so much respect for Lady Gaga. First, she soldiers on with a concussion to finish her performance. Then she responds to Madonna’s snarky antics by keeping it classy.

Madonna and Lady Gaga do have much in common. They are both Italian Americans from the North Eastern United States. They are both from affluent families. They both have taken ownership of their own sexuality. They both use their music to challenge our ideas about what is acceptable. Regardless, there are differences between the two performers.

The music created by these two artists sound distinct and different to me. I do not have the technical expertise to articulate how the music of Lady Gaga is unlike the music of Madonna. Hopefully, someone who does have this type of expertise can explain it.

Ultimately, I really love the music created by both of these women. Madonna’s snipe seems sad and bitter. I am reminded of Elvis who was jealous of the Beetles in the late sixties. I hope that both artists decide to focus on simply creating more art.

Religiously, Lady Gaga was raised a Catholic. She remains a Christian, but I don't know if she still considers herself a Catholic. That would be between her and Joey Ratzinger.

Ethnically, Lady Gaga is an Italian from New York.

No one is objecting to your opinion regarding his skill as an entertainer. No one is objecting to your opinion regarding the way the media has treated Lady Gaga. I am, however, objecting to you wishing ill upon someone who has done you no harm. I understand that you do not seriously want bad things to happen to Lady Gaga, but what you wrote was not very nice.

I can completely understand feeling apathetic toward a celebrity; however, actively wishing someone ill is not an expression of indifference. Obviously, she is someone you do care about. Otherwise you would not wish her ill.

Regardless, I will get over the fact that you want a total stranger to suffer. Likewise, I suspect that Lady Gaga herself will somehow manage to survive your ill wishes.

I am going to end my involvement in this discussion by wishing for you and yours the very best that life has to offer. May you enjoy a life filled with sunshine and rainbows and shooting stars and gentle showers. You may have the final word on this exchange.

I think she's having a week like anyone else some good, some challenging. Madonna hates being out of the limelight. It's the youngster's turn. Time to kick back and watch the show Madge!

Madonna, so what if btw sounds like express yourself? Madge should be proud that she is an inspiration to such a big star and she also needs to grow up a bit. Lady gaga is far more talented than madonna anyway, in my opinion.

But any week that I had to look in a mirror & see that freak's head looking back at me could not possibly be a good week...Gaga, her "little monsters" & her constant attempts to shock the public & remain within the news can kiss my a$$...

IMO she's have a bad career, unfortunately 12-24 year old women don't agree, and they control the media. I'm glad Madonna did that, Born this Way IS Express Yourself, the second I heard that song I said, how blatantly can you cover a song without owning up to the fact that you are?

Karma. She should have had a personal conversation with Ms. M rather than allow this to play out this way. The songs ARE very similar. The pole falling on her? Someone was in the wrong place at the wrong time and ultimately that is the director's fault. Who hired the director? If its LG, then this whole incident falls on her. You step off your mark and bad things will happen. Someone was off their mark.

Yes, but the pole was obviously an accident and she still finished the show although she was feeling rough, and I think the comment about Madonna was very mature, so she is handling it well.

Who cares. I don't think that anyone younger than 25 can have any idea what Madonna did for women, for music, for pop culture... Gaga is just soup de jour. She's not advancing anything but her own bank account. Do people really look at that dude ("Lady" Gaga) and think, "Wow, there's guy who could really use and benefit from my empathy..."? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah...

Madonna cannot possibly help herself by starting a feud with a young, talented woman half her age. She's made her mark. She needs to have a bit more grace with younger singers.

I would much rather have had her leave the stage and go to the hospital and be safe than finish the show. I have no idea what Madonna's problem is but that tirade was suicidal. Gaga is the hero of a whole generation of kids who've been persecuted and is admired by a whole lot of old queers like me who love her artistry, her guts, and her embracing of 10s of thousands of GLBT kids who desperately need a role model who doesn't spit on them. For Madonna to spit on GAGA is like spitting on the next generation of fans who might have rediscovered her. Now? Not so much.

I agree. I enjoyed Madonna's songs when they were good but hey its time to let the next generation have theirs. Why do Madonna fans insist on forcing her on people. Its time to move on to newer things.
