Kristen Stewart "not pretty enough" for Snow White with Charlize Theron as the Queen Ravenna?

So Rupert Sander's "Snow White and the Huntsman" released a few days ago and I'm surprised at the amount of critique reviews that point to Kristen Stewart's beauty (or in this case, a lack of) as a failing in the film.
As movie critic Mick LaSalle puts it "When the mirror says, and with a straight face, that Stewart and not Theron is the fairest of them all, he was clearly just making trouble."
The top comment on this same review read, "You got it Mick, what kinda mirror would prefer Stewart over Charlize Theron? One that is cracked."
Now I myself had similiar thoughts from the beginning when the casting was first announced. It's not that I find Kirsten ugly (not at all), I just find her very plain in comparison to a beaut like Charlize and so the whole notion that she might "out-fair" Charlize was just silly to me. Even still, for reviews to outright say that Kristen wasn't pretty enough for the role seems a little harsh to me. Or is this just one of those cases of "the truth hurts"?

Sybil 2012/06/05 13:04:13She wasn't! Charlize is clearly the fairest of the two. Sometimes the truth h...+3My opinion is that due to Twilight fame they probably thought she would be a great box office draw. But the problem they forget is that Twilight wasn't only about Bella(kristen Stewart) It's an ensemble cast that attracted viewers. She's popular now, the 'it' girl (no wait...yup she's gone!) And that is what makes me shake my head. There are so many beautiful and talented women that could have been cast along side Charlize and Chris, but here we are with Kristen 'lackluster' Stewart. So my question to my fellow Sodaheads is this; Who would you have cast as Snow White? My pick would have been Natalie Portman.

They look so similar but both have timeless beauty and would both have done great as Snow White!!
I understand that Emily Browning was amongst many who auditioned for this part. I would've liked either her or Anna Popplewell.
Charlize is beautiful compared to Kristen.
Agreed whole-heartedly! I (personally) was rooting for Emily Browning to get the role (she was one of the people audtioning, no?). Whether she could "out-beaut" Theron would still be a debate for some, I guess, but I think she would've more believable as Snow White.
