My shotgun shooting classes are 8 hours before you even see a range.. one would be supprised at how much there is to know about shotguns, and the process of hitting clay targets doing over 60 miles per hour....

Thats great ! A shotgun is underestimated for it`s utility. And accuracy.

My idea was , not that you may 'need' a gun, but that you can enjoy the sport of recreational shooting by proper training first. And overcoming your fears. The choice, obviously is all yours. Heaven forbid, you would have need for one, ever.

Outside of my years in the military, I never "Needed" a gun.. I teach self defense and concealed carry classes also,, I dont know of any of my students ever needing to use their firearm.. However I have never had to use mine either.. It is only a tool to be used for the right moment.. as Gunner said,, the shooting sports are great... Look at the young lady that took Gold at the Olympics,, she did what many good shooters only wish they could do 99 out of 100 targets....I have done it many times,, but more often I didnt make it to that number either... I teach 4-H kids,, 8-18 years old and it gives tham a sense of accomplishment for ever step in the marksmanship awards.. They gain self confidence and also the association with others of their age... I have seem many of the youngster grow up, become adults and pass their knowledge down and become mentors as well... Shooting is not always about Killing....

I never said it was only used just for killing. I just wouldn't feel comfortable holding a gun and i would feel even more nervous shooting it as well. Besides if i ever did have a gun my dad would never let me use it ever.....

I don't think any of my family has been to a shooting range, if we want to shoot something, we go pick up old political signs off the side of the road and make those our targets, or old beer and coke cans, those are always nice to use.

Often a while back. A boyfriend I was seeing collected guns and we dated at the range a few times. I went by myself later to shoot a gun I owned and guns they had at the range. I found it entertaining.

My husband and I go to the range at least twice a month. We know several handguns. I love ripping off 300 or 400 rounds.

And how is your crime rate / capita ? In Australia where it is now nearly impossible to own a firearm, the crime rate has skyrocketed. In areas of the US where guns are banned or severely restricted, the same is true. In areas where the local Gov. has encouraged private ownership, the crime rate is drastically reduced, when compared to the others. I`ll keep mine.

Calm down dear. Just because I dislike guns it doesn't mean you need to give me a militant speil about how good guns are.

We don't need them. Move on.
  • gunner Vieuphoria 2012/08/19 14:02:56
    gunner
What ? The truth is considered militant by you ? I agree, you think you have no need of them because your country has fed the lie long enough, now many actually believe it. When politicians disarm a population, it is not for the populations safety. It`s for the politicians safety. Militant? Damn right. Mao`s comment about where political power comes from , says it all. Your not a citizen of Great Britain, you`re a subject. Thats fine by me.

It's not the truth. It's your opinion. Check out the difference in gun crime between our countries. Most crime in this country is committed within inner cities because kids think it's cool to carry knives, and play street gangs against one and other. You don't do to these places at night. Handing guns over to these kids makes nothing better. We have grown up to be somewhat civilised in the sense we don't need to be constantly armed. I don't need a cock extension, and I feel perfectly safe on my streets. If you don't feel safe on your streets without having a gun, then I suggest you move sir.
  • gunner Vieuphoria 2012/08/19 17:45:37
    gunner
No one gives the kids guns, they steal them from police. They are`nt playing street games. Your remark"cock extension" ,would make our Sarah Brady proud. She`s a well known anti gun Socialist here. However in my case, I`ve always thought of my gun thata way. There is no area safe from crime, anywhere in the world. So, a Socialist philosophy will house me,feed me,keep me healthy, clothe me,educate me (altho I don`t know why) and keep me safe. Free beer too ? LOL Tell me, when a crime does occur, how long before the bobbies arrive ?

Not long at all actually. For instance I was mugged once. Had my wallet and phone taken. I put up a fight, but was pack into a compromised postion and he had a blunt weapon. I gave him my stuff... called the police and within the hour he was in prison, and I had all of my things back. Now if either or both of us had had a gun, someone could have ended up dead... which is not a good thing. There is no need for guns, I have no need for guns... if you like guns, then go crazy. But you must understand this is a cultural thing, and not simply an issue of right and wrong.
  • gunner Vieuphoria 2012/08/19 18:20:03
    gunner
I think it is my understanding culture is a choice. It isn`t mandated by law. Myself, were I mugged, & I have been, I`d fight back also. At least you didn`t curl up in a ball and cry for help. Lucky the bad guy didn`t have a knife. Hope you weren`t hurt.

I was not harmed. But if he had a knife, especially a gun it would have been a lot worse. But I trust the police in my area. If I lived in London I would not, the Met are dreadful. But down where I live they're very good.

But yeah, the reason America has such a hardcore stance on gun ownership is because you have it as a right in your constitution. That works for you. For us, we banned them after WWII. We see them a weapon, a emblem of evil and wrong, as a symbol for oppression. Naturally this is different to yours because we've never had a constitution (which I would support). But after WWII we decided to care for one and other and bring the country together as a community. Hence our NHS, and our negative stance on gun ownership. You guys see guns as a means to fight oppression, and see them as a human right... and that's fine, as that's how your society works. It's a cultural thing, sir. Nothing personal, no conspiracy, just how it is.

I actually love shooting handguns, more so than skeet shooting. I'm liberal, and understand issues of gun control, and strict gun laws; however, I find them fascinating, and many people have hobbies, guns happen to be one of them. I think education is the key to keeping them safe.
