Kendra Wilkinson Defends Jessica Simpson's Baby Weight: Is the Public Too Hard on Her?

The public was pretty tough on Jessica Simpson before her pregnancy, never mind during, when she gained a reported 70 pounds. And now that she's trying to lose the baby weight, people aren't being much nicer ... except for Hugh Hefner's ex Kendra Wilkinson.

"That just breaks my heart," Wilkinson, 27, tells omg! from Yahoo!. "I feel for her. I was in the same boat. People just need to mind their own business. That's a woman who just gave birth. Her first priority right now is her child. Her first priority is not losing the weight. You should be proud of her for that. A lot of people just dump their kids off at nannies and lose the weight overnight. We should all be proud of her for being real and taking control and making priorities."

Well said, Kendra! The star of WE tv's "Kendra on Top" has talked openly about the 60 pounds she gained after giving birth to baby Hank in 2009, and her postpartum depression. "I looked in the mirror and I said, 'I'm fat,'" Wilkinson told ABC News last year.

We're sure Jessica will be in fighting form again in no time ... but in the meantime, do you think people are too hard on her? And is there too much pressure on celebs (and women in general) to stay skinny after having a baby?

Society puts so much pressure on women to be skinny. For goodness sake she has a newborn. They need all the attention they can get. Let her be she"ll lose the weight on her own time but raising her child is a top priority than being skinny

People need to mind their own damn business. Bullying is never the answer. I don't care if these people are in the "public eye" or not. They are out there entertaining us all at the risk of ruining their private lives. It's not like they can reverse their fame. People need to think about how they'd feel if they were on the receiving end of these comments or if they were in a situation where they couldn't change their image. The body is just a shell. It's what's inside that counts. I don't care if you're the most stunning person on earth. If you have nothing to offer in the personality department, you can take a hike.

No, she gained too much weight.

She chose to be paid 4 million dollars by weight watchers to debut herself on NATIONAL television at 30 pounds lighter only 4 months after having a baby. She over ate (Clearly!) and then she made her weight known to the public. Idiot. I feel horrible for her, her stress level and her 4 million dollars. LOL! NO!

Jessica Simpson is famous by choice. There are perks for that (big money, fame) AND there are detriments (no privacy and people judging you for everything you do). Fair or not, if you decide to make your living in the entertainment industry, your talent is on display as well as any missteps you make in life...and people WILL have an opinion on those. If Jessica Simpson is happy with herself and her fiance is happy with her, then she needs to just stay away from the internet and the gossip mags that write mean-spirited things about her. She didn't mind people gushing over her when she lost all that weight and toned up for the Dukes of Hazard movie, now did she? It's a 2-way street. I struggle with my weight...just like millions of American women and I, too, gained too much weight when I was pregnant. Doctors tell women not to just eat whatever they want and to be careful with weight gain for a reason! Jessica Simpson ignored the warnings and she enjoyed her pregnancy to the fullest. Her fame and money can't take away those extra pounds. Is she justified in making that decision? Sure. It's really not anybody else's business how fat or thin she is so if it bothers her that people have an opinion, she should stay far away from places where it's discussed. Good luck with your weight loss, Jessica. Congratulations on your baby, your fiance, your fame and your large bank account. I think everything will work out for you in the end.

Yes, it's normal to gain weight during pregnancy but she admitted to eating poorly too. Look at her legs; you don't gain baby weight in your legs unless you eat too much garbage. I gained about 30lbs. while pregnant because I didn't indulge in donuts and kitkats every day. It's not true that a pregnant woman is eating for two - that baby is tiny and only needs the mother to consume about 300 extra calories a day. One bagel, a yoghurt smoothie or a few pieces of fruit and nuts. Not ding-dongs and cheetos. And if she's breastfeeding that burns at least 500 calories a day just sitting there feeding the child! It doesn't take long to get rid of the weight even without exercise if eating properly after giving birth.

I think it is her own matter. also, about her career in showbiz, if she is interested any more, or going to do something else.
people are different, though she gained a bit more than required.
just for a warning, my mom gained as much with me, but later became helplessly obese with huge health problems. though no one caught her at all with eating much. at that time, medicine had not that plenty of tools and they were wary. today she would have got some hormonal treatment to save her health.

70 pounds is the average a mother gains during pregnancy. My mother gained about 80 when she had my last sibling and she didn't lose all of it until he turned 1.

Society gives such a hard time to celebrities because they have nothing better to do than look up to what they wish they could be. It sickens me that people forget that *le gasp!* these people are ALSO human beings.

might wanna get your facts straight...anything over 45lbs is overdoing it. every doctor will tell you that. In a Japanese hospital, they won't let you get that far before telling you straight up that you are fat.

A healthy pregnancy today is considered 25-35 lbs. Most first time mothers lose all of it in the first month IF they breastfeed (although many gain some back later on).

Well one can only hope that my "breastfeeding diet" is as effective with the 2nd (maybe 3rd) as it was with the first. It is officially the best diet ever, I normally have trouble losing weight and I ate whatever I wanted and still lost all the weight and then some in 2 weeks.

Congrats to your wife, I've heard it is harder after the first, but most say you still lose the weight, it just takes longer.

Sure 70 lbs. is a lot, but it's nobody else's business what the woman weighs. She should focus on raising her newborn child then lose the weight later if she wants & needs to.

Damn everyone needs to mind their business. Did she gain to much weight probably is it my business if and when she loses weight no. Did the public help impregnate her, hold her hand during delivery, late night baby feeding, crying, diaper changing hmm I don't think so. So who are we to judge. She's focusing on her baby first and will lose her weight I have know doubt it about but it will be at her pace not what Hollywood society thinks.

A woman's body changes when she copes with pregnancy.
criticizing J.Simpson's weight gain is just ridiculous, right?
May as well criticize her for having blonde hair and for her eye color.

Come on...let her work through this. Becoming a new mother is hard, but doing it in public is almost insane these days.

She will work through this and she will wind up ok. Let her be a new mother: she has the health and welfare of her baby on her mind right now, not so much losing the baby weight. She will work on that at her own pace.

Well, I think people are being too mean to her, but people always assume that you have to eat for two when you're pregnant and quit exercise. You always have to remember that the baby has a miniscule stomach and does not eat the same amount as a thirty year old woman, and that you need to stay fit while you're pregnant.

I think that she doesn't need to lose the weight immediately, or too quickly, but I don't think it's healthy to put on that much weight during pregnancy.
