Katy Perry Rejects $20 Million Offer from 'American Idol': Did She Make the Right Decision?

How many people would reject $20 million to give their thoughts on musical acts for a worldwide televised show? Apparently, one notable person--best-selling recording artist Katy Perry. According to TMZ, "American Idol" offered Perry $20 million to fill one of the hit show's vacant judging positions and was . . . rejected.

Reportedly, Perry rejected the contract offer because her workload is impossible to manage with judging on the show and that she felt it wasn't the right career move. Perry was originally offered $18 million and then in attempt to really get her to sign, the one-year contract was upped to $20 million.

Considering M ariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and even Keith Urban are all but a done deal to be on the "Idol" judging panel, it wouldn't have hurt Perry's career to have millions of people watching her on TV every week alongside her fellow top artists. It also doesn't hurt to have $20 million in your bank account, no matter how much money you've already made in music. Time--and ratings--will tell if Perry made the right career choice.

Judging on Idol is a job for has-beens. Katy Perry still has a promising career. Good for her.

I believe that AI is about done! You can only do the same old thing for so long and then people get tired of it. I suspect even the sponsors are getting tired of it too. Maybe 1 or 2 more seasons and whammo, it will be history.

Well, on the surface it seems like a ridiculously stupid thing to turn down $20mil.... but she obviously doesn't want to do it! I think her decision is good and she has other plans she is plenty busy working on.

American Idol is on it's last leg, Katy Perry is hugely popular and can make MUCH more money on tour and making more music. So why would it be a good ideal to be on American Idol?

I am not a Katy Perry fan, but it does seem to me that she would have been saying, "bye bye bye" to her singing career if she had taken the American Idol job.--American Idol judges that sing, are has-been singers.

Katy has a lot on her plate these days. And I'm sorry but this job is for artists that have A LOT time on their hands. Artists that are not doing much of anything else. Mariah Carey is a mom so this is a perfect job for her. She isn't on the road all the time and she can probably bring her kids along with her.
