Katie Melua @ Hotel Cafe - Hollywood, California 5-3-09

I went to the Katie Melua show at Hotel Cafe on Sunday Night. She is a Georgian (former Soviet union) born singer raised in Britain. One of Europe's top selling female artists, who sells out large venues (O2 in London). The venue I saw her at holds about 150 people. I was sitting at a table right in front of the stage. The video is shaky for about 2 seconds, but the rest is pretty stable. I took lots of pics, added some here. I used a beer bottle for my tripod. Worked great.

A great songwriter. "Piece By Piece" is one of my favorite albums (oops, CD). "Call Off The Search" is excellent also. The new one ("Pictures") is good as well, but I don't think it's quite as good as the first two.... But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong... ;-)

Thanks. She is super fucking HOT! I was totally drooling. I took the video too. It is shaky for a few seconds, but overall thought it came out great for my little Canon digi cam.

    Yeah it's really nice.
I'd love to see her like that...it's the only true way to see an artist like her.
Huge gigs are just no good...it needs to up close and intimate.
It's almost a shame when someone like this gets popular.

This place only hold 150 people. Depending on who it is, it can sell out pretty quickly. I saw Missy Higgins there about a year and half ago (front row table). Missy is huge in Australia sells out arenas, but started at Hotel Cafe over here. I just recently saw her in March and now she is playing places like the Orpheum. Much bigger than Hotel Cafe.

Thank you for the posting. My wife and I where @ the hotel café as well to see Katie. Actually we where standing right in front of you while waiting in line and sitting at the table right beside you to your right! We loved her performance. Her voice is absolutely remarkable and I'm sure it was a one time experience for the people that where present @ the hotel café yesterday. I felt so lucky to be able to see such an intimate performance by Katie Melua. And you are right, she's young (but mature) so talented and a real beauty.

Thank you for sharing the video and the pictures! If you have more please share some!

I actually stumbled on your blog when I made a search mixture of Katie Melua and Hotel Cafe! So this is the first time I fall upon SodaHead.

Indeed it was my first time @ the Hotel Café did not now what to expect when we entered the alley to get to the back entrance, But my wife and I really didn't care where that alley would take us, since we where so hyped to see Katie. And it turned out to be a great place, a great show, a great crowd and a great experience (yes I did "over used" the word great in the last sentence).

Small world. You and your wife live in L.A.? Hotel Cafe gets some really good shows, people usually on the verge of making it...or in the case of Katie people who haven't made it in America yet. I try to keep an eye out for good shows there. I have a friend who goes to H.C. all the time, so she also keeps me updated on the happenings.

Actually no, took a babysitter for our two kids and we drove all the way from Santa Barbara!

I'll keep an eye @ the Hotel Café's website calendar for future venues and now your blog of course!

BTW next time instead of using a beer bottle you should get this: http://www.joby.com/products/...

they are compact, fairly cheap and very useful!

I love Santa Barbara! Great place to go Wine Tasting, good restaurants, cool downtown.

Oh yeah good idea re: the Tripod! I will have to check that out.
