Katie Holmes Reportedly Sending Suri to Catholic School: Is It Better Than Scientology?

Call it another victory for Katie Holmes ... Suri Cruise will start school in September at Manhattan's Convent of the Sacred Heart, a fancy-shmancy private all-girls school in New York City, E! News reports.

suri

At the $38,000-a-year school, the previously home-schooled Suri will attend Catholic mass every Thursday. Past graduates of the elite school include Lady Gaga, Nicky Hilton and Caroline Kennedy.

Clearly, mama Katie Holmes, who reportedly got primary custody of the 6-year-old in the divorce, is calling the shots here. Papa Tom Cruise's religion, Scientology, seems to be completely off the menu. Holmes was raised Catholic, and so, in fact, was Cruise. Do you think the school is a good choice for Suri Cruise?

Scientology is a cult, not a religion...

So yes, Catholicism is definitely better. Better still, Catholicism (and I'm agnostic, raised Protestant) is a Christian faith which actually recognizes science (i.e. they accept evolution as factual science).

lots of conflicting info from the people he knew there. besides, if the "he only said that to get power and influence" line is being in play here. we have a really big problem and it spends to all religious leaders.

"we have a really big problem and it spends to all religious leaders."
-Of course, that's always been true. Many people will fake their religion to gain power, influence, and wealth. That's why it takes a lot of insight to see a real Christian (Theodore Roosevelt) from a "political Christian" (Obama).

"we don't know if he was an Atheist, we aren't really sure what he is."
-At least one news source claims he is an Atheist so far. None claim that he was a Christian to say the least.

"also christians in some places like africa are still killing people like crazy now."
-Statistically speaking, that's probably true, but at least I don't have to worry about being shot up by a Christian when I go to a Batman movie.

Wrong, I am a Christian and I don't hate every Muslim.

No matter what religion Holmes is, although I'll heavily wager that it's Atheist like Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were (the murderers from the Columbine Massacre), I hate him and believe he deserves the death penalty.

Update: James Holmes was once part of the Black Bloc, a violent version of the Occupy movement. http://www.examiner.com/artic...

Give Catholicism and all the other religions credit compared to Scientology. The other religions have been around for thousands and thousands of years. Scientology has only been around since the 19-20th century.

Although both are crazy, and generally not a force for good in the world Scientology is simply a cult that I sincerely hope fades away. Whereas Catholicism isn't all that much better given it's historical track record.

I'm not sure what's better, a crazy cult where washed up celebrities go as they can't act anymore, or religion headed by a guy that used to be in the Hitler youth...

I'm not a huge fan of either choice, but its better than Scientology.. Personally, i think even the catholic school is kind of a dumb choice, but then I go to public schools.. where we learn about science. not god. XD

Catholic schools teach about science. Catholics are not the same as some other denominations of Christianity in their rejection of science. At Catholic schools, you're taught taught that religion and science aren't working against each other, but that they are two sides of the same coin and can't be compared-- science asks "how" and religion asks "why". In fact, I learned about evolution in my 9th grade religion class. Yes, Catholic schools teach about God, but they teach about everything else as well. And because they are private institutes in the US, they generally have better education than public schools.

No duh they probably have a better education than public schools. Especially from Michigan.. they don't like giving us a lot of funding. XD Though- It could be worse. But anyways I just don't like school and religion together.. I dont really enjoy religion at all-but I tolerate it

It might be a tad better, but they both get you to believe and do what they want you to do. I was raised a Lutheran, but when I became an adult and was able to make my own decisions, I studied all the major religions just for ideas and to see where they were coming from. In the end I decided I didn't care for any organized religion, and their Dogmas and I guess I became an independent spiritual seeker of the truth. Even Jesus said the Kingdom of God is within you, and by me searching for God within myself instead of listening to what some minister said, I became much more spiritual than I ever was when I went to church. I believe there are many different roads leading to the same destination.

I only chose this answer because there wasn't an "other" choice. Pretty amazing that a poll started by SH Management would not have more choices. Since Scientologists are in the minority on these polls - it is obviously rather biased - wouldn't you say?

Here is an interesting article about "Misleading Statistics" which says "Polls can easily be rigged to get a desired answer by the way the questions are phrased." http://www.truthpizza.org/log... This poll is a perfect example of that. Being that it was created by SH themselves - makes if particularly shameful.

Either way - I will answer the question:

I don't know enough about the quality of Scientology schools to comment, but I sent a message to my SH friend who knows about this and she e-mailed me the following "I don't even know of any "Scientology" schools for 5 year olds. Scientologists may send their kids to public schools, and when they are of age where they can read and study - they may attend Scientology classes at their nearest church. Some Scientologists send their young children to accredited private schools that use study methods by Hubbard - but they don't teach the religion of Scientology. They teach reading, writing and arthmetic, history, science, etc. like any other school. There might be other types of ...

Based on her response - this entire poll is based on a fallacy - and obviously rigged.

As to a Cathic school education - I have heard horror stories though by those educated in strict Catholic schools - but to be fair - it all depends on the school. As long as she gets a well-rounded education with good academic basics, she should be fine.

Well, I'd prefer her to send her to Catholic school rather than bringing her up in Scientology. Give me a break! At least, she will hear about God, Jesus and salvation. Still, Catholicism has a lot of false doctrines, too. It's better the Scientology though. Scientology is absolutely false. At least, she'll hear about Jesus in some form or fashion and be saved by God's grace. I pray she will be anyway.
