Score one for Katie Couric in the fight for celebrity interview "gets." The perky talk-show host will interview Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o in his first on-camera TV interview since the mysterious story of his fake dead girlfriend began to unravel, Couric tweeted.

On Friday, Te'o told ESPN that he was not part of an elaborate hoax, but admitted that he "tailored" his stories so people would think he had met "Lennay Kekua," the woman he believed to be his girlfriend but had never met, "before she passed away."

"I wasn't faking it. I wasn't part of this," he said, adding that he had received an apology from alleged hoax mastermind Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, a 22-year-old who lives in California.

Meanwhile, a source told USA TODAY Sports that Te'o's mother had spoken with the person purporting to be Kekua about converting to Mormonism and discussed the Bible with her over text message.

Te'o and his parents will appear on Couric's syndicated talk show on Thursday. But will the interview be more shocking than Diane Sawyer's Whitney Houston interview? Or Oprah's recent chat with Lance Armstrong? From Katie-Manti to Martin Bashir-Michael Jackson, click through our slideshow and let us know: Who landed the biggest celeb interview ever?

I choose Tombo. Which other interview started a new phrase? Jumping the couch? And how many memes did any of the others inspire? Tombo-Harpo launched a thousand memes.

Te'os not just a victim here! Because he said himself, that he met her face to face in California when he played Stanford! That blows this whole victim excuse in itself! I believe he used this story to pump up his team mates, and help him to win the best college player status as well!

BY FAR!!! I remember the sheer controversy surrounding this one when it aired. I was barely a teen then--and laughed my ass off the whole way through because of how dysfunctional it was. Really it was sad to see this once great entertainer morphed into an extravagant freak of nature. Martin Bashir might has well should have been walking alongside a zoo animal. It was so sad that Martin had Michael CORNERED the entire interview....the fact he even had to is sad. To have to wake a grown man up from a fantasy life that he shouldn't be living because he has children and responsibilities is a f'ed up thing to have to do. MJ had no business taking care of children.

This poll needed a "NONE OF THE ABOVE" or "OTHER" option, because I'd say the David Frost -Richard Nixon interviews were the biggest and most historic of all of the interviews with celebrities.

This is not even an interview. Te'o is not a celebrity, and Couric is on Mission Rescue Manti. The one who should be interviewed is Tuiasosopo. What was he thinking?

It made the news because what happened to him is happening to many people now a days, he just happens to be a star player for notre dame and one of the top 5 for the nfl draft. Being catfished happens more often than you think.

Catfished? Is that term they use when men chat up "pretty girls" on the Internet only to find out much later they've been chatting with 270 lb Larry from a trailer in Alabama? Awwww. Poor poor Manti. I hope his hand isn't sore.

It was a documentary called Catfish: The movie, about a guy who fell for girl he met online who he chatted with for a while, he decided to go and find her and brother and friends documented the whole thing (wasn't the girl he thought she was) which led to Catfish: The TV show which documents other people's lives in online relationships and has now became a term and you can guess what it is, Catfish: someone who pretends to be someone they're not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.

Maybe I'm just an old-timer, but this has been going on since we all first hooked up our 56k modem to the phone line and dialed up AOL. Didn't realize it finally got a name.

It's just named after the documentary. To be honest I feel for the guy, he seems like a nice kid and happens to be a victim of this.

Thanks for the link - but I stay as far away from the sludge on MTV as I can. I'll just take your word for it. I don't know enough about the story to judge the guy. He sure manipulated a lot of people with his story. Maybe he's just foolish, maybe a victim, maybe an idiot. I have no idea. It's difficult for me to even imagine having someone in my life that I officially called my "girlfriend" to friends and family - and this was someone I'd never seen, never met in person even once, never spoke to them verbally.., only letters typed on a screen. I realize there is a certain connection that can develop through the written word, but typically a romantic type boyfriend/girlfriend requires and seeks out more than that pretty quickly. Have you heard how long they were "together?" I'd be curious to know.
