Katie Couric thinks women are overly criticized for their looks -- but she has no problem taking a dig at Kate Middleton's weight. Couric admits that the pretty duchess is at the top of her interview wish list for her upcoming daytime talk show, "Katie."

"I think it would be really interesting to interview Kate Middleton because I think she has comported herself so well since she has been thrust in the limelight," the 55-year-old said, according to sheknows.com. But she adds: "I think she needs to eat more because she’s so thin."

kate middleton

Kind of ironic, because Couric also points out: "You don’t see male CEOs or politicians picked apart for the way they look as much as women." Well, the 30-year-old royal bride certainly is pin-thin, but she always looks elegant to us. Do you think she's too skinny?

She has an athletic and slightly boyish figure so being slender suits her. She lost weight since first coming into so much public attention, but she seems to be healthy and that is what matters. Couric is right, there is too much focus on how women look and too much criticism, however she and most other women contribute to that greatly. It's a vicious circle. Couric will be envious of Kate for being so thin, not because she believes all women should be that way, but because she believes the rest of society believes all women should b that way.

What Couric is really saying is: I wish women weren't judged so much on their looks, but because they are, I feel compelled to criticize the ones who look like our culture's current ideal.

People aren't made from one mould (or any mould for that matter); they are DIFFERENTLY SHAPED. Some women with bigger body statures would be underweight if their arms or legs were of the same thickness as hers and others wouldn't! She is slender without lacking muscle mass, she is fit, and she is within the healthy weight range for her own body.

An additional 10 lbs. would be a healthy, and nearly undetectable, wt. gain. Her hands and arms are beginning to look like Angelina Jolie.

Katie is so jealous of anyone that is young and beautiful. However, that is certainly not her business as she tries to make herself an authority on everything. Katie needs to try to say something postive about others instead of putting them down since her last job she did not do real well at because of her negativity.

I concur... people pick women apart too much. If she was a little chubby you would call her fat, but since she's not... now she's too thin.

She is fine! Honestly, she is slender but not too thin. It's really rude to say that too someone because it's just as bad as callin someone fat. I have been trying for years to gain weight by eating a lot and building muscle but my metabolism is too high. I'm 14, 90 pounds, and guess what? I'm healthy! So it annoys me when people tell me I'm skinny because I know, and I've learned to accept it because there's nothing I can do about it.

I've had the same problem. Every time I left my house, some idiot decided it was his/her duty to comment on my body.
And you are absolutely correct about the word skinny. It is as offensive & negative as the word fat. I wouldn't dare go up to someone & tell them they were fat... acquaintance, friend or stranger. But I have had that happen to me so many times... people will simply walk up to me out of no where & tell me that I'm so skinny I make them sick or that I need a sandwich or some stupid thing like that... while I used to be able to eat more than my father when I was just a little tyke (8, 9, 10 years old) & he was actually overweight & in his thirties.
High metabolism is nice to a point. But we have to be careful. We are more prone to stroke & heart attack... not to mention hypoglycemia. On top of that, we tend to be very expensive to have around... because we need a constant intake of food.
I find, after decades of trying different eating habits, that the best thing for me to do is eat small meals all day. So, instead of a great big breakfast, it's better that I have a small one, then eat some more in a couple hours, then again a couple hours later & again a couple hours after that. It's called "grazing" & it keeps my energy level & metabolism balanced out quite well.

Take care of yourself & don't bother with anyone who says anything negative about your body. They're just jealous after all. Tell them you feel sorry for them that they are so unhappy about themselves that they have to degrade you & walk away. Giving them any more time/attention than that isn't worth it.

Katie Couric is a has been hack. Kate Middleton is way to thin but it seem like people are just being critical because they wish they could look like her. Has anyone for one second though that maybe her low weight has to do with stress and a very busy life style? I loose weight fast when I am under a great deal of stress, it is just my metablolism. She shouldn't be criticzed, you don't know her. Super Models, criticize away, they do it on purpose.

The Dutchess is a beautiful young woman. Ever since we first started to see pictures of her she has been of a shapely, slender build. Isn't it just possible that Katie Couric is envious because she is bigger and less attractive than the Dutchess of Cambridge?

You're right, the average American's (and Australian's [I'm Australian]) woman's body IS well beyond a size 2. The average - by literal definition - is OVERWEIGHT. This isn't by some skewed perception that I have; this is fact. There is a healthy weight range for every individual and it varies from one person to another but most people in these countries, and others, fall outside this range.

Regardless of your preference, it's highly insulting to compare the bodies of women who are naturally finer boned and slender and of a HEALTHY weight (i.e. not anorexic) to those of 12 year olds and imply that the men who find them attractive are paedophiles.

there are women who are naturally slender,
like natalie portman.say what you want, that is
not kate middleton's normal body weight.

most of the fashion industry is based on
an adolescent body type.most normal guys
just aren't into rail thin women,so you can stick
your lame admonishment up your australian ass.

Why did you feel it necessary to insult me based on my nationality? You disgust me and you, like so many others here, truly make me ASHAMED to have American citizenship (yes, I have dual citizenship). If sodahead has taught me anything it's that age is no guarantee of maturity. You're a 43 year old man. Act like one.

As for your, what, argument? Kate Middleton is not RAIL THIN. The following is copy and pasted from my original post:
"People aren't made from one mould (or any mould for that matter); they are DIFFERENTLY SHAPED. Some women with bigger body statures would be underweight if their arms or legs were of the same thickness as hers and others wouldn't! She is slender without lacking muscle mass, she is fit, and she is within the healthy weight range for her own body."
This picture was taken this year.

Well, this is a very delayed response; I haven't been on here for three weeks or something I suppose. But to get to the point - thank you very much for your apology. I am really taken aback! I wish I'd seen this sooner because you probably made the assumption long ago that I read this and coldly ignored it.

I most definitely forgive you. It is difficult to be on one's best behaviour all the time and it takes real courage to apologise in those instances when we mess up.
