She has an athletic and slightly boyish figure so being slender suits her. She lost weight since first coming into so much public attention, but she seems to be healthy and that is what matters. Couric is right, there is too much focus on how women look and too much criticism, however she and most other women contribute to that greatly. It's a vicious circle. Couric will be envious of Kate for being so thin, not because she believes all women should be that way, but because she believes the rest of society believes all women should b that way.
What Couric is really saying is: I wish women weren't judged so much on their looks, but because they are, I feel compelled to criticize the ones who look like our culture's current ideal.

Katie Couric thinks women are overly criticized for their looks -- but she has no problem taking a dig at Kate Middleton's weight. Couric admits that the pretty duchess is at the top of her interview wish list for her upcoming daytime talk show, "Katie."
"I think it would be really interesting to interview Kate Middleton because I think she has comported herself so well since she has been thrust in the limelight," the 55-year-old said, according to sheknows.com. But she adds: "I think she needs to eat more because she’s so thin."
Kind of ironic, because Couric also points out: "You don’t see male CEOs or politicians picked apart for the way they look as much as women." Well, the 30-year-old royal bride certainly is pin-thin, but she always looks elegant to us. Do you think she's too skinny?

i would say she is bordering on too skinny, no meat,no curves, almost flat chested. Healthy? I guess so, also kind of boring. As for Kate middleton, the person, well good luck to her in her endeavor. Being a princess is not an easy job.
Her show's not gonna last *imo*.
WHO CARES what Katie *+€{'&@ Couric thinks about anything? Anybody who trusts a sleaze bag like this for their "news" is devoid of intelligence. So and so is too fat, so and so is too thin. For who Katie, YOU? Go away.
The vulture class of tabloid reporters like this POS hack, make The National Enquirer seem like legitimate news sources. Does someone's weight really matter, and what type of talking head thinks it is ok to discuss this? What executive puts their stamp of approval on weasel's claptrap? What about Steve Buscemi's teeth, or Owen Wilson's nose? She would have had a field day with Marty Feldman's eyes- or Peter Falk.
What a pathetic statement on modern culture when this woman is given a camera, microphone and access to television to spout off how truly shallow she is.
But more importantly, what jab? "I think she needs to eat more because she’s so thin."? How many grandmothers serving dinner have said just as much, only far more bluntly? Does Couric go on to criticize Middleton? Because I don't assume that the woman is so weak and fragile that a tactfully asked question would make her fall apart.
Kate isn't a piece of celebrity money-making, she's royalty.
