Kal Penn, the 35-year-old "House" and "Harold and Kumar" actor who served for two years as President Obama's liaison to young America, made a humorous but poignant speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night, in which he urged young people to vote.

And yes, he cracked a Clint Eastwood joke. "I've worked on a lot of fun movies, but my favorite job was having a boss who gave the order to take out bin Laden and who's cool with all of us getting gay- married. So thank you, invisible man in the chair, for that," he said, referring to Eastwood's "empty chair" speech.

kal penn

Comedian Sandra Bernhard pretty much summed up the Democratic point of view on Twitter when she wrote: "#kalpenn he's no clint eastwood but we're doing the best we can. #dnc2012." Whose speech did you prefer: Kal's or Clint's?

Kal Penn's speech was a disgrace to the ethnic background that he hails from. A billion something people dont think like him and thank God for that

He took on Clint Eastwood? It will take a looong time for him to be able to "Make my DAy'!

In the meantime, I hope he can understand what family values means, as the issue that is MOST important to the future of mankind. All other issues are secondary. Still, he lives in a 'free' country -

caution: when you speak to young people, ALWAYS guide them correctly, without bias

    Obama's liason to WHO?
You have got to be kidding me, Kal Penn is no example of a person who should be held up for our youth to admire. His movies are horrible, full of drugs, crimes and how to be a slacker. His House characted killed himself. What a terrible role model!

Only Obama would choose someone with such a low caliber of class and lack of any accomplishments worth mentioning, sort of like that Sandra Fluke "gimme gimme".

Glad we missed that group of nasty American Idol losers at the DNC.

there is a reason why one actor is more believable than another.. yes he is decent actor... but one always feels like Penn is playing himself.. takes time guess Penn has 35 more years to figure it out both as an actor and figure out that marxism is a failed idea just like his boss.. oscumbo

He had something to say, what did the empty chair verbally say???? That was sarcastic, not political, and that's all they have been doing since the election of President Obama.

We all have to be sensitive to Kal. It is politically incorrect to discriminate against the mentally impaired, and we should be nice to Kal not only because he is "special', but becaue that extra chromosone he sports makes him Extra special. Anyone remember were he parked his short bus at the convention? Bright yellow, big black letters, holds about 6 people?? He has to get his helmet on before his mom sees him without it.

As I said before I credit Clint Eastwood for representing the republican party in perfect metaphor... And angry old man bitching at an empty chair. The empty chair perfectly represent all the invisible delusions republicans and their base have regarding the President. Such as....

The empty chair stole $716 million from Medicare.

The empty chair waived the work requirements for Welfare.

The empty chair apologized to our enemies.

The empty chair gave millions in U.S. taxpayer dollars to its cronies.

The empty chair palled around with terrorists.

The empty chair didn't write its autobiography.

The empty chair is a socialist.

The empty chair is a fascist.

The empty chair is a Nazi.

The empty chair wants to take away everyone's guns.

The empty chair is planning to invite the United Nations peacekeepers onto American soil after it's re-elected

The empty chair wants to pull the plug on grandma.

The empty chair hasn't been tested.

The empty chair doesn't understand our Anglo-Saxon Heritage.

The empty chair doesn't understand what it means to be an American.

The empty chair was constructed in Kenya.

By better, you mean the value of the speech, right? The better speech was Kal Penn.

    the Chair

If by better, you mean more comedy? Something like a funny old dude talking to a chair... That was Clint Eastwood.

    No one heard

Penn's speech was better because people heard it. GOP is still talking to... No one! =D

P.S: If you go east from Florida, your in the water. For Eastwood's sake, I hope "East-wood's chair" floats...

Kal Penn's speech had substance, at least.

Clint Eastwood, clearly, is a legendary star. But he was also a hot, insubstantial mess in his speech.
