Do you really expect an interchangeable teen-pop widget to win Best New Artist? The Academy voters would have had the biggest scandal since Milli Vanilli.

Im Shocked only because i keep seein the lil boy everywhere and in the begining i thought he was another backstreet boy/ nsync type act that u would find out later down the road was gay, but hes been hookin up with some rap acts to get rid of the soft image while maintaining his "clean music" crowd so i cant really hate on him, hes doing it! but because i have never really heard any of his music and nothing stuck with me i dont think hes ready for the grammys quite yet, but hes young
    so he has time!

I am a little shocked, actually. Although the Grammys are obviously for the best of the best, (and he is not one of those) he was nominated for a few. I thought his astronomically large fanbase would have voted him in.

I've never watched an American award show, and the British public vote for all of ours.
    Who votes for the Grammys?

    NARAS members only.

So, basically, your country's most prestigious events awards is picked by a select few? I wouldn't be proud to win one. I'd rather win something that a lot of people have voted for.

To be fair, there are thousands of members of the NARAS, including studio engineers, label executives, album producers, recording artists, etc. They might be "insiders," but they're a pretty diverse lot. It's not much different from the BAFTA, whose awards were held last night over in England, is it?

I wouldn't be proud to win any award at all. If you believe people who tell you that you're great, then logically you must believe them when they tell you that you suck.

The BAFTA awards were held on the 6th January, and are film awards, not music.

Sweetheart, the BAFTA awards were held on February 13th, 2011. I don't know where you were then, but you missed 'em. http://www.bafta.org/awards/

Film, music, it's all the same. These awards shows are administrated by governing bodies -- insiders, if you will -- who seek to reward their own. There are awards shows decided entirely by popular votes, such as the American Music Awards and the People's Choice Awards, but they are rarely considered to be as "prestigious" as the Oscars, the BAFTAS, the Grammys, et al.

Frankly, I couldn't care less about any of them.

Don't call me sweetheart, it's derogative.

Yes, it was aired in NewYork last night. It aired the 6th January in the UK.

Film and music is not the same. Music is a very, very personal taste. Most people like most films.

I assume you mean "derogatory," not "derogative."

The BAFTA awards did not air January 6th. The nominees weren't even announced until January 18th. The awards were held over the weekend. Feel free to post something to support your claim. In the meantime, here you go: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cu...

Film and music -- and all art, really -- are ENTIRELY the same. If you think that people can't be as subjective and personal in their film tastes as you are in your take on music, then you haven't been around people for whom cinema is a serious intellectual, artistic and/or academic concern. Some people treat film and music as mere entertainment, as eye/ear candy. Others take it seriously and treat it as sublime expression of craft and art. In both cases, however, popularity doesn't translate to quality. Neither does obscurity, for that matter.

Yes, yes I do. Thank you for pointing that out. :)

Stop posting that link, I've already followed it.

I don't know which BAFTA you've been wathing, but it's certainly not the same as I have.

From the Academy's own website: "This year's celebration of the very best in film took place on Sunday 13 February at the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden."

For goodness' sake, Annie, don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. The BAFTAs took place last night. Admit you're and move on.

She's a great technical singer, but in terms of the poor material she selects/sings, as well as the overwrought melodrama she wrings from every line, she hovers somewhere between mediocre and flat-out awful. She's Michael Bolton with a vagina. For her to have won the Album of the Year Grammy (1996) shows just how middle-of-the-road Academy voters were/are much of the time, how often they reward people who play it safe.
