Judge Judy Is the Highest-Paid TV Personality: Surprised or Could See It?

She's been on the air since 1996, but Judge Judy is still the highest-paid TV personality, raking in $45 million for her syndicated afternoon court show, according to the annual "Who Earns What" survey by TV Guide.

If you're being technical, Simon Cowell of Fox's "X Factor" earns more (an astounding $90 million according to Forbes) but a lot of that comes from his behind-the-scenes work. Matt Lauer of the "Today" show makes $21.5 million a year, but it pays even more to be funny. David Letterman makes $28 million, and Jay Leno makes $25 million.

Reality TV is also lucrative, especially the singing shows. Mariah Carey will make $17 million to be the next "American Idol" judge (Ryan Seacrest makes $15 million just for hosting the show), according to TV Guide; Howard Stern makes $15 million for judging NBC's "America's Got Talent"; and Britney Spears is making $10 million to judge "The X Factor."

But it's crazy to think that 69-year-old Judge Judy makes more than Mariah Carey and Britney Spears combined. Do you watch her show? And are you surprised by the news?

I remember watching her show when I was younger and still occasionally see it once in awhile. I love her attitude towards people when it comes to accepting responsibility and making sure that you document things.

You already told us she makes $45 mil, so I'm not surprised right now... however, before the other week when you told us she made $45 mil, yes I was surprised. I knew at least 10 million people watched, I just didn't know she was raking in that much.

I don't get to watch her show as much as I used to but I still watch sometimes because she makes me laugh..

What does anyone do? Some professional athletes can't read or write and haven't even finish grade school. Why are many lawyers millionaires. I think she got the number 1 rated tv show so that may answer your question.

Did you know that when she first started the show, she told the network (I forget which one it is/was) that she wouldn't do the show unless her bailiff (that she was working w/ at the time she worked at another court building) did the show with her??? Now, THAT's nice, huh?? Her family moved to Cali just to do the show and so I'm guessing she was from some different state. The network moved the bailiff there too. Now, THAT is a friend, huh?? That meant the bailif (I forget his name) wasn't going to be out of work. I'm pretty sure he's getting real good money.

I looked it up and the bailiff makes a cool half a million a year. He rightfully bills himself as the highest paying baliff. He certainly does better than the average of $14 and hour.

Look at all the other BS Salaries are getting these days.
I just seen an NBA team signed a player for four years for 35 million and he only played
14 games last year.So Surprised I should not be.

True, you and I average swinging chumps are helping to pay those salaries when we buy the advertised goods and services and attend the games or pay per view. I went back to regular antenna TV 1 year ago and saved 1200 dollars. Judge Judy at least has astuteness and class.

I aplaud Judge Judy for not giving being screwed over by someone who was lying to her in court.

A lot of times, I wonder if people can't stand her because THEY lost a case in her courtroom and she made them look absolutely stupid as they were trying to get one over on her.
