Judge Judy Is the Highest-Paid TV Personality: Surprised or Could See It?

She's been on the air since 1996, but Judge Judy is still the highest-paid TV personality, raking in $45 million for her syndicated afternoon court show, according to the annual "Who Earns What" survey by TV Guide.

If you're being technical, Simon Cowell of Fox's "X Factor" earns more (an astounding $90 million according to Forbes) but a lot of that comes from his behind-the-scenes work. Matt Lauer of the "Today" show makes $21.5 million a year, but it pays even more to be funny. David Letterman makes $28 million, and Jay Leno makes $25 million.

Reality TV is also lucrative, especially the singing shows. Mariah Carey will make $17 million to be the next "American Idol" judge (Ryan Seacrest makes $15 million just for hosting the show), according to TV Guide; Howard Stern makes $15 million for judging NBC's "America's Got Talent"; and Britney Spears is making $10 million to judge "The X Factor."

But it's crazy to think that 69-year-old Judge Judy makes more than Mariah Carey and Britney Spears combined. Do you watch her show? And are you surprised by the news?

I saw a show about her life style and home. She lives in a g-damn mansion any billionare or king would envy. Talk about your ivory towers... She not worth that kind of money.

I kind of hate her, yet somehow, am unable to look away when her show comes on. She kind of scared me a little when I was younger haha!

I haven't watched her in several years but I LOVE her no-nonsense attitude. Before she was ever on TV, I read her book, "Don't Pee on my Leg & tell me it's Raining". It's a riot & a REAL eye-opener". Her cases FORCED her to make snap judgements. Read it :)

I'm shocked. I find her abusive and opinionated. She decides before the people even speak who she thinks is right or wrong. She's rude, sarcastic and even cruel. IMHO

She has read the case before they present it to her, I used to think she was rude, but then I started to watch sometimes and she is only rude to people really asking for it.

I'd rather someone like her make that cash than some trashy loser like the Kardashians, Jersey shore gang or any of the so called housewives. And yes, I know they don't make anywhere near that (except maybe the Kartrashians) Just trying to make a point.

She is just too mean and disrespectful. There is a difference between being stern in offering advice and giving advice and being offensive. Yeah I am shocked she is the highest paid TV judge. I don't watch her and have no plans in doing so

I already knew that judge judy was the hightest payed TV personality. If I remember right, the person playing the court officer and hands Judge Judy the case paper work, get $500,000 a year.
