Juan Pablo Montoya jet dryer accident at Daytona 500. Strangest NASCAR race ever?

"Juan Pablo Montoya has had his share of racing accidents, but the one in Monday’s Daytona 500 will rank as the most bizarre.

The Colombian-born driver hit a jet dryer under caution, causing an explosion and massive fire with 40 laps remaining at Daytona International Speedway, delaying the race for more than an hour."

This may result in a fluke victory for unknown racer Dave Blaney.

Ummm..... there was a mechanical malfunction with the car and I'm sure the reason will be found after they do an autopsy on the wreckage.
I'm no Montoya fan, but you cannot pin this one on him.

It could have been 100 different reasons but something went 'snap' on that car.
He and his pit crew knew there was something awry but weren't able to find the problem.

Plenty of other videos and his pit crew was crawling up under the car on his previous pit stop trying to figure out where the vibration was coming from.

Things go 'snap' when they vibrate and at 80MPH, you become a passenger.

Possibly the Brickyard a few years ago when Goodyear brought tires that would only last 5 or 10 laps before shelling out continually stopping the race with competition cautions was as weird. The jet dryer thing with Montoya last night was very strange other than that it was the same old Daytona running in packs too close to stop a major wreck if one driver screwed up. Seems like they've been in Daytona for a month.

NEVER has the 500 had delays and postponements like this one. And the damn traffic has gone on for days and days beyond what it normally does. Luckily for me, my assignments have kept me well away from the track itself.

Lol, I can't be bothered! I got so spoiled going to the races years ago when I got to sit up in the press box, hang out in the pits, and rub elbows with the drivers in the garages and parties, that I'll never be able to sit in the grandstands again!

Yep, I grew up in an 'Indianapolis 500' environment, became far more interested in NASCAR & NHRA and roamed around in the pits quite often.
Went to Daytona a few years ago with the RV for the 2-week infield experience.
I agree... it's hard sitting in the stands after that but Phoenix has a grass hill 'cheap-no-seat' section that can be a blast.

Not quite as much fun because they don't allow all the creature-comfort items but it's a fun day for 35 bucks and I can drive there in a few hours.

That's cool. On a "normal" day it only takes me 20- 25 minutes to get to the speedway. During race season......HOURS!

It was much better than getting a room in town. Since we weren't gamblers, staying at the track was much cheaper. I went to Vegas twice for the race but stayed at the track only once. My dad went four years in a row and stayed in a motor home at the track the last three.
