Jon Stewart Says He Almost Quit 'The Daily Show': Are You Glad He Didn't?

Jon Stewart has confessed that he once came very close to quitting “The Daily Show.” Speaking at the Montclair Film Festival over the weekend, he admitted that he was unimpressed with the show’s staff when he arrived in 1999, after replacing Craig Kilborn as the host.

According to Third Beat, Stewart said “what I did not realize is, a lot of the people who worked there were a******s." He talked about initial clashes with executives, saying “I wanted it to be satirical in the classic sense of the word… I walk in the door, into a room with the writers and producers, and the first thing they say is, 'This isn't some MTV b******t'... And then I was told not to change the jokes or improvise. [I told my agent], 'Get me the f**k out of this'. These people are insane.”

He said that it took him almost three years to feel comfortable at the show, after the show had experience a severe staff turnover. He has now worked on the show for 13 years. Are you glad he didn’t quit?

for one thing the guy really is smart. I've seen him go on Fox unscripted and just kick the dogshyt out of O'Reilly and Hannity. I wish Limbaugh would get out the safety of his fart filled radio booth and let Stewart have a swing at him.

I see you didnt comment on anything I stated. I would say look at the ratings and the length of time he has been on the air. He's gotta be doing something right or he is just plain funny as hell. Relax go with the flow and enjoy it. Unless his comments cuts right to the heart of your parties agenda. Then change the station and forget all about him.

He is an original.
I like Jay Leno, personally. Letterman is an "A" hole. Conan is embarassingly UN-Funny.
But, they are ALL still doing the Johnny Carson "Tonight Show" from the 1960's. Not one innovation in the lot of them. Jon Stewart does an original show. AND, he is funny!

Uh yeah during the day Fox is hard news, at night it's mostly shows with political commentators-opinion shows. Just because you may not like the news they are reporting, ya know the news that all the liberal stations won't report cuz it's against there agenda, Doesn't make it not a real news station just because you don't like it. Fox is not hard news during the day. Yet even if it was the fact that the allows commentators at night to talk about the news they didn't get for themselves and try to pass it off as the news means you shouldn't go to them for the news. For something to be the news it first off has the be NEW information that no one else has yet and the person telling you the information needs to keep their opinions to them selves.

Sadly there aren't many news shows like that on TV. MSNBC is biased and Fox is biased. The closest you can get to unbiased news on TV now a days is from BBC.

This is why I get my news from many different sources on the internet(Lots of bias here as well) and from my local newspaper.

I do and it's utter propaganda 24/7/365. Their FCC license is for entertainment not news. Murdoch tried to start a station in Canada like Fox News but before he did he tried to change a law that said you can't knowingly lie on a news channel.
