Jon Stewart has confessed that he once came very close to quitting “The Daily Show.” Speaking at the Montclair Film Festival over the weekend, he admitted that he was unimpressed with the show’s staff when he arrived in 1999, after replacing Craig Kilborn as the host.

According to Third Beat, Stewart said “what I did not realize is, a lot of the people who worked there were a******s." He talked about initial clashes with executives, saying “I wanted it to be satirical in the classic sense of the word… I walk in the door, into a room with the writers and producers, and the first thing they say is, 'This isn't some MTV b******t'... And then I was told not to change the jokes or improvise. [I told my agent], 'Get me the f**k out of this'. These people are insane.”

He said that it took him almost three years to feel comfortable at the show, after the show had experience a severe staff turnover. He has now worked on the show for 13 years. Are you glad he didn’t quit?

for one thing the guy really is smart. I've seen him go on Fox unscripted and just kick the dogshyt out of O'Reilly and Hannity. I wish Limbaugh would get out the safety of his fart filled radio booth and let Stewart have a swing at him.

Love the show. He and Colbert do a spot-on humorous indictment of the lunacy of our media/political mechanisms. Since they lean left they are more likely to spot lunacy on the right but are more than willing to ridicule the left when they spot something in need of ridicule.

This is why the right-wing has no analog to Stewart and Colbert. Stewart and Colbert are political comedians first who happen to be liberal. Sure it's a filter their humor goes through but being funny comes first. All attempts to copy them on the right are conservatives pundits first who are trying to be funny while doing it. Conservative talking points come first.

I think he is brilliant. He is right on the money most times but falls short from telling the complete story..... doing so would ruin the comedy. We have to remember this really is a comedy show and please do not take all your news from Comedy Central.

Well thats the problem! Polls show that most(liberal) people are getting their news from this source, and treating it as gospel. Thats shameful..

Mmmmmm! I love jarlsberg. And most other hard cheeses. Not really into the soft smelly ones like you, but some are good like brie or camembert. At least you have something good on your mind.

Well, how about this, the sharper the better. I like a cheese that makes the muscles at the back of my jaw tense up! Any suggestions? I agree about the Brie or Camembert. I had some Camembert and was pretty impressed. I had to stop myself from eating the whole wedge!

Then try reading comic books for your history lessons, since you have such a low level of intellect......

For all I care, the ignorant moron can jump off the Grand Canyon.
  • Silverl... Willy 2012/12/14 05:12:28
    Silverlocust
Technically, he would have to jump INTO the Grand Canyon
  • Willy Silverl... 2012/12/14 05:25:24
    Willy
But he would have to jump off the edge of it to jump into it.
  • Silverl... Willy 2012/12/14 08:43:16
    Silverlocust
But does the edge constitute part of the Canyon, or is it only part of the surrounding plain? This is a deep question - half a mile deep.
  • Willy Silverl... 2012/12/14 15:23:02
    Willy
It would be the wall of the canyon.
  • Silverl... Willy 2012/12/14 15:34:34
    Silverlocust
But he'd still be jumping into the Canyon and therefore can't be jumping off it.
  • Willy Silverl... 2012/12/14 16:17:58

I guess he would be jumping off the canyon wall.

I don't think The Daily Show would have lasted much longer If Craig Kilbourne or someone like him were leading it. Before the Indecision 2000 Coverage The Daily Show was Very Hit and Miss. I'm glad Stew beef decided to push the envelope It made the Daily show Much Better, and we got The Colbert Report as a result.

He and his brilliant crew have a way of using comedy to expose the ugly underbelly of society. We are much better off because of him.

Many don't get him. but, I believe that if you take the time to listen to his 12 minute speech at the conclusion of his (and Colbert's) rally to restore sanity you will come away with a better understanding of yourself as well as John Stewart.
