Johnny Depp To Release Super Star 'Pirate' Album: Amazing or Awful?

Johnny Depp has always wanted to be a rock star, but as you know he settled on being a pirate -- among many other quirky acting roles -- and he's done pretty well for himself.

These days however, the actor has been spotted playing guitar at gigs more frequently than usual, and now he's merging his interests to release an album of pirate songs. Yep, pirate songs.

The album will be released on February 18th and is titled, "Son of Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys." Before passing judgement, check out the track list here. The double disc compilation includes a myriad of rock 'n roll heavyweights including Keith Richards, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, Michael Stipe, Courtney Love and Patti Smith.     I'm willing to listen to it and give it a chance before I decide if it's awful or not, but it sounds pretty damn cool.
    And apparently, the album mentioned here is a sequel to the first one entitled "Rogues Gallery" of which Johnny Depp was a producer.

    Jars of Clay released an album updating centuries old hymns. They went for boring to bravo! If Depp does that, then yesssss AMAZING!

    So when did he become a rock star? People will buy it and then toss it in a week. It will be like his movies where he doesn't dress in a weird outfit, a flop.

    Amazing is probably too strong a rating, but I'll be interested to see what he has come up with musically. From what I've seen and heard the man has some pretty good musical chops, and he certainly has the musical celeb connections, so this could be a real surprise! I wish him luck!

    Nothing wrong with him speaking the truth. At least he's honest. If people can't deal with him having the guts to tell it like it is, too bad. Apparently, judging by the huge box office dollars his films generate, guess the majority aren't upset by his views in the slightest.

    IMO, he has a better chance of success than failure. With his name and the others associated with the project, even if it doesn't do well, at least it's something different. Thank God for that!

    I've already heard the whole thing on the NPR website, another great thing GOPers want to kill along with public schools and the USPS. Calling this Johnny Depp's album is ridiculous. It would be more accurate to call it Tom Waits' album. All that said, it's plenty enjoyable. Check the version of Shenandoah by Waits and Keef Richards.
