The Oscars are a complete and total waste of time. They are boring, elongated, and entertaining as watching paint dry. Also, the people are overtly arrogant, elitist, and mentally challenged.

And boring. It's all pomp and it's basically a popularity contest. It may have started as a way to show recognition to great work, but it doesn't truly do that anymore. The same can be said about most award shows, though.

Awards shows in general are boring, imho, and the Oscars are ultimately just an awards show, the rest is fluff. Some celebrities are interesting people I'd love the opportunity to get to know (though even more are not), but celebrity culture on the whole is extremely uninteresting.

It's just an arena where the actors/actresses and all the other little people jump into the shark pit to fight it out to see who will come out on top...

It was fun watching it for a while when I was naive, but after the whole Avatar/Hurt Locker fiasco I lost all interest in them.
