Not even close. Hendrix revolutionized the guitar, Clapton was simple just good. Every guitarist including Clapton will rave Hendix as a god. Besides Hendrix requested a jam session at a Clapton gig and showed him up and Clapton stormed off the stage.
Hendrix was a phenom no question but he didn't make it past the age of 27. Clapton is 67 who is an amazing talent and can still perform. I had the opportunity to see him live twice. Hendrix not so much. If your looking at body of work and longevity Clapton is the choice but if your looking at raw talent Hendrix is your man. Clapton has collaborated with so many great artists. Could you imagine Hendrix and Clapton on stage together??
I only picked Jimi out of respect for those with awesome talent who left us way to early. Also because if he was still here to share it would be even more awesome to make the comparison now!
That said, in recent years I have seen Clapton once at the Hollywood Bowl with Stevie Winwood and with Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker as Cream at the Madison Square Garden.
I agree with NYCBrits comment below that it is an apple and oranges comparison to a large part.
And what of the lost potential of Hendrix & Clapton jamming together? We will never know how they would have fed off each others talents this far into a potential comparison. Somehow they both may not care about any comparison and just Jam Baby!!!
I used to bang my head to Jimi Hendrix while sitting on the washing machine whenever my dad did the laundry as a toddler because that's what he would always play....It was his clothes folding music... I was pretty much Raised listening to Jimi Hendrix..
Clapton....er...not so much. I mean, he has some GREAT songs, but I never got into his music The way I did Jimi's
As a guitar player, Hendrix really was God, and not Clapton, but Clapton has survived, and continued to give us more. What Hendrix played was unreal, but I could listen to his entire catalog in three hours, and then what? Clapton recorded rock and roll, hard rock, pop, electric and acoustic blues and mastered each of those genres.
And make no mistake - there would have been no Hendrix if it hadn't been for Clapton. Clapton's guitar work, especially in the '60's and early '70's was amazing.

Thank you for posting "Angel". So many people have only heard "Purple Haze" and a few others, and his REALLY good stuff gets lost. I highly recommend his "Cry of Love" album. Folks will be surprised at what an excellent singing voice he also had.
Jimmi Hendrix, Rolling Stone Recently named Top 100 guitarists. They said so there's no Confusion Hendrix is number one & every one else is number two.
I loved J H music, but Clapton is incredible and I love his music too. They both are wonderful musicians but they have completely different styles so it is hard for me to pick just one. Love both their talents.

DUMBEST QUESTION EVER. EXCEPT FOR THE "Do you think I'm pretty" questions.
Stupid Steve, I expected better from you . . .

If you do, feel free to share with others.
