Jessica Simpson Is Pregnant Again: Is Having Back-to-Back Babies a Good Idea?

On Christmas Day, Jessica Simpson confirmed the rumors that have been swirling for weeks: she is pregnant with her second child. The proud mom-to-be tweeted a photo of her baby girl Maxwell sitting with the words “Big Sis,” which were etched into the sand in front of her. Check out the video below to see the cute shot at :25!

The news is pretty surprising considering that her daughter is just seven-months-old. While Simpson’s undoubtedly excited to share her big announcement with fans, the impending visit from the stork puts a wrinkle in a few of Jessica’s plans. Some sources say she had wanted to get married to fiancé Eric Johnson before Christmas this year but had to put it on hold when she discovered she was with child.

Then there’s the update that she’ll be shelving her Weight Watchers diet leading up to the birth. No word yet on how that affects her multi-million dollar contract with the organization.

But more importantly, studies have shown that getting pregnant too soon after having a baby can affect the health of the unborn child. And moms’ bodies might need a bit more recovery time before going through the process again. What do you think? Is having back-to-back babies a good idea?

If she can afford it I don't see any reason why not. A good friend of mine just had her second baby and her first was just under a year old when her brother was born. The boy came out healthy as a horse and other than being suuuuuuper tired mom is fine too.

People have twins and even triplets fairly regularly...two kids close in age could end up being great in the long run.

You cannot possibly give both children the nurturing they need bit I'm sure nannies will be on board to make life easy for Jessica.

Probably a little bit close for my liking but I don't see anything wrong with it if she has been given the all clear from her doctors and sometimes there can be a tremendously close bond between siblings that are so close in age. Wishing them all a wonderful happy life and hope they have lots of awesome memories.

the required time between babies is 6 weeks recovery for the mom. If the first baby is 7 months old. It should be fine. Things happen.

But with her money she can pay people to look after them...for normal people with two babies under two would be super stressful so i'd say no...

Healthwise it's not always a good idea, and if a woman happens to be nursing her first baby, she often doesn't consume enough calories to support fetal growth. If it turns out she is not getting enough calories and nutrition, she often is forced to make the choice to wean baby #1 before the recommended minimum one year of life (recommended by American Pediatric Association). Miss Simpson may not be nursing. I don't know. However, it is only one consideration, there are many others; like the concept that when babies are spaced too closely (less than two years apart), they each don't receive adequate parental nurturing. Health considerations aside, closely spaced babies are often unplanned. Whatever the story is for the celeb here, I wish her all the best. At least she has the financial means to get all the help she needs with two little ones.

Good for her! She's putting her children before her career. I can only speak as one who is separated from my only sibling by seven years. We are not close, and I think had we been able to share more common experiences growing up, we'd be closer.

It's just not healthy. I mean, she has a right to do whatever she wants, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. If you want to have kids back to back, go ahead, but know that it will most likely affect your health later in life.

My sister rejected me because I was born to close to her. A year and a half apart. But maybe if she's still a little baby it might be okay. Typically, I think waiting until the older kid can understand what's going on (2-3 years old) is best. Also, the older one might feel like they were forgotten or pushed away when the baby arrives.

First of all there is no rule saying a model has to a certain weight. Second of all no matter how healthy she eats she is go to put on weight. She is pregnant.

there should be a rule. plus sized models are disgusting. yeah, she will put on baby weight, but she should have at least lost the weight she gained after the first time before getting knocked up again

I think people would have litters like kitties and doggies do if it was affordable. and babies weren't so huge to push out already. It's probably convenient to have them bam bam bam bam and then quit and get yourself in shape if you're rich enough to hire several nannies.

get one out of pampers first and then put that one in school so u will have a litle bit more time for the other child. she is in for a ride of her life , when kids are small they are a hand full. Hell my cousin left her 5 year old with me and I cant handle it my kids r grown. hell if you cant wipe you on ass then dont leaven with me and he wets the bed, so I'm getting him up at 12 mid and 4 what a job. returning the kid on Saturday.

It's whatever the mom-to-be wants. If you can handle babies in close age like that, then go for and love it for all it's worth. My brother and I are back to back babies sort of, being 11 months apart. The only problem I see is having to deal with expenses without a grace period to save up a bit more (school/college stuff).

Having a little brother or sister or two for her daughter is an excellent idea.
However, I do think that she should've waited a couple or three years before
beginning construction on the next bundle of joy.

But 7 months isn't quite back to back. My two youngest are a year apart, and the only reason I say it's not a good idea is because it takes a massive physical and emotional toll. Our bodies just aren't built to deal with 19 months worth of pregnancy.

One, you have no idea what her parenting role is and who the hell are you to judge?

And secondly, that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that back to back pregnancies are physically and emotionally brutal. Are you suggesting someone else will carry her foetus?
  • rolliby Ruby De... 2012/12/28 04:36:37
    rolliby
Lol, yeah - like no one else has carried someone else's fetuses. Her parenting "role" is probably as involved as reading the Chicken of the Sea label.
