Jessica Alba Is Getting an Environmental Award: Who's the Greenest Celeb?

Add Photos & Videos
Jessica Alba really seems like she has a lot to juggle these days, between a successful movie career, her own line of green products and a husband with two kids. So it’s hard to imagine she has time to recycle her cans and bottles let alone have a significant global impact. But the actress has done so much good that she’s about to be honored at the Environmental Media Awards.

jessica alba

The 31-year-old mom will receive the first-ever EMA Green Parent Award
on September 29. She can chalk the honor up to her advocacy for the Safe
Chemicals Act and her Honest Company affordable cleaning, personal care
and baby friendly items.

But Alba isn’t the first star to worry about their carbon footprint. Leonardo DiCaprio is famous for his self-titled organization that focuses on forest preservation, clean water and renewable energy projects. Ed Norton served as the U.N. Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity. And many will remember that Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation helped to complete 150 green homes in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Or course, it’s hard to live up to the standard set by former Vice President Al Gore, who brought the issue of global warming to the forefront with his film “An Inconvenient Truth.” But Daryl Hannah certainly deserves props for her dedication to the cause including three arrests -- one of which was involved a 23-day sit-in atop a tree. Who do you think is the greenest celeb of them all?

Good for her. However Al Gore takes the cake (especially with his large, energy inefficient mansions).

I chose Al Gore as the greenest celebity, because he wrote the best-selling book, "An Inconvenient Truth," and he's dedicated his life to environmental causes. What I want to know is, why weren't Gumby and Kermit The Frog on this list?

Same as the blokes at East Anglia University? Global warming is real but so is global cooling. Regional shifts are even more common and recently, South Africa had snow cover over the entire country which was a record for them.

Yes and it's always changed, it's just funny when people have some kind of ego to think we have something to do with it. lol

Excuse me, but I just reread my post, and I didn't see anything either complimentary OR negative about Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" or the man himself. I merely responded to the question. My comments weren't meant to be construed as a book review.

I know, I'm just saying his book had skewed numbers and incorrect information is all.

I won't get into a debate here about my philosophy on climate change. It's true that Al Gore's book was based on the fudged numbers of climate scientists, who actually hurt themselves, damaging their reputations and negating their research results after they were exposed for having lied about their findings. Personally, I think that Al Gore is an okay dude who has good intentions for helping mankind. [Then again, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.] The guy is obviously a rabid tree-hugger and environmentalist, which isn't necessarily a BAD thing. One thing that totally cracked me up about Al Gore was when he got caught cheating on his wife, Tipper, and they divorced. I didn't think the old boy had enough "sap in his trunk" to be a ladies' man. [haha] Overall, I just think Al is a bumbling old fart who means no harm.

If the science community wouldn't have constantly changed back and forth and kept saying if we didn't do anything right then the world would end I would have more respect and take some things into account but it's like those morons who keep claiming they know the exact date when God is coming back, it just makes people look crazy and unbelievable.
First they said we were going to go through an Ice age again except it got hot and then they said no wait the earth is heating up except then we got hit with harsh winters so they changed it again.
I just can't take them any more and I've heard enough climate change scientists who've basically that even if we stopped everything it's too late now anyways and the ball is too far along to stop.
It just doesn't help when the guy flies a private jet and leaves the lights on in his mansion.
I'm all for taking care of the planet but it just seems like Eco activists intimidate people through fear in order to control them.
All the new lightbulbs that are supposed to be green are actually toxic and filled with Mercury which people have been trying to stop in products because of it's high toxicity.
I just can't take them seriously anymore.

I do believe in global warming. However, a few extra-cold winters and a few extra-hot summers do not climate change make. This is calculated by tracking mean temperatures over an extended amount of time. For example, Europe experienced the Medieval Warm Period, which was followed by the Little Ice Age. Just a change of three degrees in either hot or cold temperatures measured over the centuries can have drastic effects on mankind and the planet. For the example, the Little Ice Age was the cause of famine, just as we see the terrible results of seasons of drought in Africa. But bottom line, climatologists cannot even agree on PAST stastics or dates, so in the end, it's pretty much a scientific crapshoot. Climate change is a reality, a naturally-occurring phenomenon which the Earth has seen since the planet first formed, such as the Jurassic Age and the Ice Age. I do believe that Man is exacerbating the problem with global warming. However, Earth won't be bursting into flames anytime soon, carbon footprint or not.

Speaking of those energy-saving lightbulbs [the curly-Q ones], I hate the damn things. They don't emit nearly enough light as the old ones. You also have to be careful which brands you use, because some of them can be dangerous. I was sitting in my living room a few m...

Speaking of those energy-saving lightbulbs [the curly-Q ones], I hate the damn things. They don't emit nearly enough light as the old ones. You also have to be careful which brands you use, because some of them can be dangerous. I was sitting in my living room a few months ago [luckily, I was home at the time], and one of my ecofriendly lightbulbs started flickering and then smoking. It would have caught fire and burned the place to the ground if I hadn't been there at the time.

Bottom line, global warming, flaming lightbulbs or whatever, we're all going to croak and the world's going to end one of these days. When that time comes, all we can do is bend over and kiss our sweet asses goodbye. [BTW, that old reverend fart who said the world was going to end awhile ago has recalculated his signs from The Almighty, and he now says we should eat, drink and be merry because The End is coming sometime in October. Plan accordingly.]

Actually Ed Begley Jr. is the only celeb who actually practices what he preaches and he's a truly nice guy. I still think he's an extremist kook but he's the real deal. The rest are a bunch of hypocrites and liars. Although Jessica Alba is an extremely pretty one.
