'Jersey Shore' Banned From Hoboken, New Jersey: Hilarious or Hurtful?

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spoke up when he heard that his state was going to pay MTV the cost they spent on the first season of "Jersey Shore," but he never stopped the show from being filmed there. Mayor Dawn Zimmer of Hoboken, New Jersey -- just across the Hudson from Manhattan -- isn't as nice. She recently announced on the city's official website that the Hoboken Film Commission is rejecting requests to film a spin-off.

According to the Film Commission, the request was denied for several reasons, including a lack of "site control;" "unstructured production;" the small size of Hoboken, which would make it all too easy for "onlookers and fans" to follow them on a "minute-by-minute basis;" proximity to residents; and the "attractive nuisance" it would be to Hoboken's "very active nightlife scene." They were also concerned that the show film in one location without a permit, on verbal consent, and warned that would not be tolerated on their shore. In other words, they hate "Jersey Shore." Do you think the news is hurtful -- or just plain hilarious?

I use to love Mtv when I was younger however slowly but surely I'm getting sick of the shows they come out with. The channel purposely targets teenagers but then create shows like Jersey Shore. I'm going to lie, I've watched the show with bunch of young adults getting drunk almost every night and sleeping with random people being glamorized like its "cool". All I can do is shake my head. Mtv is becoming trash.

But it is still bad to banned a show even if you don't care for it. I don't like the show but people have the right to watch it if they want.

Just because the public doesn't like the show, doesn't mean they should kick them off the land and laugh at them. They're people too you know. They're young and having fun, and I'm sure majority of the people who said hilarious used to party when they were their age. How would you feel if you were kicked out for having fun and then the world laughed at you?

I will admit it is a horrible example, but you should have more faith in today's youth. I mean look at me, I'm turning out pretty fine and I occasionally watch the Jersey Shore. It teaches us what not to do rather than what to do.

And yet, there are preteen boys and girls who watch the show religiously and want to be just like them, not knowing better and eventually being a bunch of sluts and douche bags. Notice how you said you watch it occasionally. And I do have faith in our youth, I just know there's going to be a portion who will grow up to be just like the jersey shore cast.

But there are always going to be people who grow up to be that way. I mean did the cast of the Jersey Show watch this same show growing up, of course not. Which means that no matter if they have the show or not, there will still be boys who grow up to become tools. That is why we thank teen movies also. All teen movies make it seem like to be cool you have to be a jock.

And that brainwashes kids who don't know any better. Why is such douche baggery so glorified? Why can't we follow rich people who are good people, like Will Smith?

They didn't do anything to be so hated. It's a shame people are afraid to like people because they are afraid to get ridiculed for it.

Hate is a strong word. I think just about every reality show(which everything is becoming) does the same. You seem really passionate about the show, and if I offended you, that wasn't my intend.

It's not you that offended me, there's no need to apologize. It's the show, along with the executives who glorify being sluts and douche bags that offend me.

Just about all reality shows are like that. They glorify the drama, but that is what also keeps people watching. Provocative behavior by women and men has been glorified for many years. The show isn't exciting(there isn't much fighting or drama), so I doubt it will be around long. It seem like stuff now want to show a lot of fighting.

It's still horrible for preteens to watch. Escpecially all the twig celebrities. They create eating disorders in teenage girls.
  • justnot... Party B... 2012/02/08 18:23:09

I agree, but the eating disorders stem not from reality TV, but societies view of what a woman needs to be, in order to be seen as beautiful, and other issues. Which is unfortunate. More adult things like Playboy, and seeing guys gawk over famous women in lingerie has a greater influence than reality TV shows.

What kind of women are glorified in reality shows that a crammed down peoples' throats? Skinny, rich women. Therefore, reality shows aren't the source of eating disorders, but they spread society's idea of what's beautiful. Therefore, they are a problem.

Reality television play very small part. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Enjoy your Friday.

Well, maybe not Hilarious, but at least chuckle-worthy. Apparently everyone has grown tired of Jersey Shore, including its stars, as evidenced by requests to film a 'spin-off'.

Any mayor of any town has the right to Ban and TV show he/she wants. Just the same way with going and filming a tv series or movie from a country. There are departments when filming, that they need special permissions to do.
