There’s been so much controversy in the Jackson family throughout the decades that it’s not impossible to believe one of the family members would consider distancing himself from the rest of the pack. And given Jermaine’s history, his name change didn’t sound unwarranted. After all, when the Jackson Five took off in the ‘70s, Jermaine was one of the two lead singers in the act until baby brother Michael became the superstar.
As Michael transformed into the King of Pop, the rest of the J5 all but faded into oblivion. Add to that the fact that younger sister Janet became a pop diva, Michael unexpectedly died of an overdose and all of the siblings seem to be feuding over their mother Katherine’s care. For the last forty years or so, it really hasn’t been all that great to be Jermaine Jackson.
In the past, when famous folks have changed their name, they usually made a bold statement. Cassius Clay became Muhammad Ali when he joined the Nation of Islam. Ron Artest, Jr. says he transformed into Metta World Peace to inspire and unite the youth of the world. And Prince switched to a symbol to work around his record label issues. Those were all pretty drastic choices.
But Jermaine simply wants to swap the “o” in “Jackson” for a “u.” Yup, moving forward, he’d like to be referred to as Jermaine Jacksun. His friend Steve Dennis explained the decision to the Daily News, saying, “To him, it’s no big deal. It’s for artistic reasons. It’s changing one letter to put in something bright and positive.” It sounds more like a cry for media attention than a big display of creativity. What do you think about the name change? Is it an artistic license or just a publicity stunt?

LaiLaiHart 2012/11/10 21:15:46Publicity Stunt+3How about you iron out that wrinkled shirt you call a face, admit you felt jealousy towards Michael (RIP <3) when the spotlight dropped you and clung to him, tell your sister Janet to stop slapping around Michael's kids and get a life, put your wheezing-for-air-dead career to rest, and then give me a call. I'll change your name for you, I now pronounce you Mr. Squeaky Clean, you may stop being so desperate for attention! Congratulations! (throws rice)

Sorry! I'm getting carried away here! *flies away*
Thank you.
Oh, and it's not very artistic.
they went from the Jackson 5 to J5 to the Jacksons before Michelle ever left the group .
hell , how many times did Puff Daddy change his name ?
Christ, how old is this guy now? Something like 60? He never had that great of a vocal range in the first place and it doesn't get better with age.
My advice; Call Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in to produce. They can make anybody sound good.
