Shortly after Whitney Houston’s death was confirmed on the eve of the Grammys, Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich and his team scrambled to rework the awards show to include a segment dedicated to the pop legend. The team chose Jennifer Hudson to perform a “respectful musical tribute” during the CBS broadcast.

"It's too fresh in everyone's memory to do more at this time, but we would be remiss if we didn't recognize Whitney's remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years," said Ehrlich.

30-year-old Jennifer Hudson has been a lifelong fan of Whitney Houston. Only a few hours before Houston’s death, Hudson talked to Piers Morgan about how as a young girl she would create duets with Whitney’s hit song “I Will Always Love You.” In 2008, Houston presented Hudson with her first Grammy for Best R&B; Album (for her record “Jennifer Hudson”). Hudson has often said that meeting her idol “almost overshadowed getting the Grammy.”

Chaka Khan will also play some role in the tribute performance.

What do you think SodaHeads? Was Jennifer Hudson the right choice for the Whitney Houston Grammys tribute?

While Hudson is a great singer she has a strong husky voice. Whitney was calm and soothing. Maybe somebody like Mariah Carey.

I believe Mariah would have done better, than Jennifer Husdon, but no sreaming notes by any means. The wristle keys is Mariah' signature, was never Whitney' range; although, the media have stated that she prossessed such a range. I have never heard it.

I saw Jennifer Hudson on BET Award performing the song (I Will Always Love You) and Whitney Houston was there and she was very happy and satified with Jennifer's performance. She really nailed that song! Whitney was her idol/inspiration who she admired very much. At the Grammy
Award, Jennifer's heart was heavy with sadness to give it her best like she did at the BET Award which is very (because of Whitney's death) understandable. But she was great, and did her very best!!!

I don't really know who she is, and with Whitney being such a huge persona you'd think they could drum up someone better known. Although I guess it was fairly last minute, and it sounds like something Hudson would bring heart to.

I love Whitney Houston, But someone else should have sung the tribute song to Whitney. Jennifer Hudson is a great singer, but she should have not been the one to sing this for her. If I had to choose 1 person, I would have chose BRANDY......

Personally, I don't like how Jennifer Hudson sings. She wails too much and her voice is too deep for my liking. I would've loved to see Mariah Carey, Celine Dion or Charice. Charice did an amazing job singing 'I Will Always Love You.'

She did a good job paying tribute to Whitney Houston. Jennifer Hudson or Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera would be wonderful choices to pay tribute to Whitney. It sounds like it means so much to Jennifer, so I'm glad she was chosen.

She did it very tastefully, just enough like Whitney's version, but not so much so that it took away from Whitney's performance of it.
