Wow ... Jennifer Hudson must be superhuman. She has found it in her heart to forgive the man who killed her mother, brother and nephew, she tells "Oprah's Next Chapter."

jennifer hudson

Asked if she forgives her brother-in-law William Balfour, who received three life sentences in July, she responded: "Yes, because I feel like for the most part it's not his fault. It's how he was brought up. We tried to offer love, but you were so far gone, that you couldn't even see that.

"A lot of things came out, that we didn't even know about, from his upbringing, which is like he never had a chance. Had you had the love my mother gave us, or the background that some have, then you would've stood a chance."

Hudson also talks about how she managed to go on after the triple tragedy. "There were so many shocks involved in it. Like, who do I grieve for first? Or, who do I start with? It's bits and pieces. It's too much. You're confused. Your emotions are confused." Could you ever forgive a man who killed three of your family members?

Sounds to me like Jennifer Hudson has learned a very valuable life lesson: forgiveness isn't as much for the forgiven as for the forgiver. It's the only way out of a mental death spiral.

I'd hope he'd get a surprise every night for a guy named Billy Bob...then I'd hope he was sent to the deepest depths of hell. I have no sympathy or compassion for anyone who murders, family or not.

I would try, but it definitely won't be easy. Neither grudges nor forgiveness will turn back he hands of time. If that ever happened to someone I loved, I'll probably need lots of time to heal. I wish the best for Ms. Hudson.

BUT no doubt she is doing this for her own self preservation. To get past the pain it's probably the only way. easy to speculate what we'd do when we're not IN that seat ...if we were, it'd be a whole different ballgame...

I would because Jesus said to forgive even he had to go through deep pain. Good for her, and I'll pray that he makes better choices in the future!

Forgiveness is your most powerful tool in the healing process. Even forgiving yourself of something you might be ashamed of doing is very empowering, and necessary to start the healing process.

I would never in a gazillion years forgive someone who killed my mother, let alone someone who not only killed my mother AND my brother and nephew. I'd never forgive that person so jen. hudson must be PRETTTY kind to forgive someone like that, but again we dont know the full story of her brother-in-law.

Holding a grudge won't rewind time, nor will it make anything better. She seems like a good person, I'm glad she's moved on.

I would forgive him for my own sake, not exactly for his. I heard somewhere (I think it was from a movie) that a grudge is like a torch. The more you hold one, the more you get burned. And it's so true.

I'd try but naw, I think I'd be in a permanent outrage. Thought they say forgiving isn't for the other person but your own peace of mind.

It is more of a help to your healing process. Years ago I use to hold on to many things I was ashamed I did as a younger person, nothing major, just little things, but when I learned to let go and forgive myself, I couldn't believe how much better I felt. So now I forgive everybody who's hurt me or anyone else, and it is such a great feeling, I'm in the best state of mind in my 53 years of being alive.

While I understand where she is coming from, I also understand I would be unable to do that, even if I wanted to. Just not in my nature.

Jesus forgave his murderers, and then forgave the world, and then forgave us in the future. Yeah I think forgiving someone for doing wrong will work out best in the long run.

Forgive someone for murdering your blood? Sorry she must be stronger than I am. But maybe in her shoes it would be different. Because I can't even think about it.
