Japan Beats U.S. to Win Women's World Cup Title: Are You Disappointed?

Japan beat the U.S. in the Women's World Cup final to become the first Asian nation to win the title. While fans of team USA may be disappointed, the win is certain to have extra meaning for the Japanese.

Japan twice came from behind to tie the score, first in regulation and then in extra time, and then went on to win the penalty shootout, 3-1, after a 2-2 tie in front of a sellout crowd in Frankfurt Germany.

It was a deserved victory for the Japanese team, which never gave up, never quit trying, and in the end added another monumental achievement to its earlier feats of eliminating host and defending champion Germany in the quarterfinals and Sweden in the semifinals.

The result was even more meaningful because the Japanese team has ridden a wave of emotion brought about by the devastating March 11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident in northern Japan that left tens of thousands dead or missing.

Nevertheless, for fans of team USA it had to be heartbreaking to watch them lose their lead (just six minutes away from winning the title) and then to miss those penalty shots.

What about you? Are you disappointed the Japanese beat the U.S. to win the Women's World Cup title?

I am disappointed at the US' loss. However, I would much rather they lose to Japan, than, say, China ...

I think the U.S. girls did alright, and considering what happened in Japan this last year, I think it was fitting of them to win the World's Cup.

Japan had a lot more at stake as far as emotion. Given what all their nation has been thru in the last 6 months, they just had more heart, period. It was an excellent game. Happy for all involved.

It would have been a great win for the United States, but I am happy for Japan. They needed this win more after all they have been through.

Wow, I'm looking at the number who are not and wondering, why not?. Regardless of the fact that Japan has gone through a terrible ordeal on its soil. Still why wouldn't a true American not be disapponted. Congratulations to Japan for having won it. But as someone who has played this game in high school and College, the US had no business losing this game. The goal by Japan to tie the game in regulation was a lapse on the part of our defender. It's basic that when the ball is in front of the goal, you don't kick it around and in front of the goal, you kick it out of play. The defender should have kicked it to the right and out past the line, not to the left and directly in front of the goal. The penalty kick selection on our part was unbelievable. The first shot was predictable that it was going to the right side of the goal, the same kicker did it against Brazil and exactly the same fashion, which the goalie obvioulsy knew. The two other shots were within reach of the goalie, one was stopped without much effort and the other went way over the top of the cross bar. The score should have been 4-0 in the 1st 20 minutes and could have been 6-0 in regulaltion. It appeared clear from the 17th minute into the game until the last penalty kick, the cup was not meant for the US to bring home. Call it destiny. Call it what you will, it just was not meant to be.

After getting it handed to them a the past 25 times, it's about time that the U.S. get beat! Let's not be angry that Japan won this game. After all of their misfortunes lately, they needed some sort of lift...

Even though I am an American I think Japan needed this win more than us. They have been through hell and back and any little boost of happiness at this time is a good thing. Both teams are winners in my eyes.

I would have been happy with either team winning since I'm from the USA, but I do feel Japan really NEEDED a win just for the morale of their country. They've been through so much recently, and needed a boost of something positive. I was very happy for them. Well-played and exciting game. I do love soccer and it was great fun to watch.

You can't win any game without capitalizing on opportunities. Free kicks are free kicks... You have to make the shot. Congradulations to Japan they deserved the win, they played harder.
