J-Lo Wants Big Rock Star Names to Replace Her: Does She Think Too Highly of Herself?

All kinds of names have been flying around as potential replacements for Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler now that they have quit “American Idol.” Everyone from ex-“Idol” associates Adam Lambert and Paula Abdul to singing sensations like Mariah Carey and Celine Dion have come up in stories about new judges. Heck, even Charlie Sheen joked with David Letterman about taking the job. But, in a recent interview with ABC News, J-Lo herself threw out a few ideas for her replacement.

j lo

J-Lo stated, “I think big. I think Bono or Bon Jovi or Mick Jagger.” That’s not big, that’s enormous. And while these names may be in line with her fellow ex-judge Steven Tyler, who comes from one of the biggest rock bands of all-time, Aerosmith, it seems like Lopez is placing herself in a league of legends, where she may not truly belong.

Sure, Jenny from the Block has had a successful run in the music biz. But Jagger, Bono and Bon Jovi are icons in the industry with numerous multi-platinum albums throughout their decades-long careers. Why not throw Paul McCartney in the mix, while you’re at it? So what do you think: Does Jennifer Lopez think too highly of herself?

She is a very self-actualized women who wants the show to continue to thrive after she's gone. She is surrounded by great performers who are successful in only one genre of entertainment and Idol is clearly not her last step on the ladder of success. I'm looking forward to what she is going to do next.

She's still nowhere near Bono or Jagger's level.

As a recording artist, I agree, but the womans in the midst of a pretty solid career. I'm really having a hard time coming up with a comparable female replacement. I do have a few ideas though.

    Y'know, I honestly don't care.

I haven't even watched that show in years; its awful.

I just don't believe that Lopez is in the same league as the people she listed, and I find such a comparison (even an unintentional one) to be audacious.

I'm not an avid audience member either because the show has a very limited definition of success. If you haven't watched the show in years, can really say it's awful. Maybe the world isn't still flat. I'm currently enjoying "Duets" because it tends to be a more possitive experience for the contestants.

Because I often catch snippets on Youtube, inadvertently; and what I've seen was atrocious.

Nice snark, with that the world is still flat comment, but it was really uncalled for.

Think whatever you think; like whatever you like, and I'll continue to do the same.

I made my point, and now I'm done.

    Good day.

Sorry about the snark. I tend not to take these conversations too seriously, and neither should you. Have a great day. Now you're done.

I'm not a fan of Jennifer's music, or her porno (Madonna wannabe) dance numbers, but I think one of the problems the show has is this...the truly great performers probably would rather be performing, rather than judging and selecting new talented youths. I hope they find someone younger and more currently relevant than Tyler (and less spaced-out). I also hope they find someone less inclined to "self-promo" than J-Lo. I fast-forwarded through her performances, partly because I don't care for her style of music, and partly because I watched the show to see the contestants compete - not to watch Jennifer prance around on stage, half naked, with a bunch of young studs.

Better. Mick Jagger has one or two songs that are good, their even better when other people sing them.

Bono. I know who he is but can't picture one single song he sings.

And I don't like J-lo's music at all.
She is very awesome as a person though.
