I'd have to say the 80s- that was when all the hip-hop elements evolved and became big. The 90's was when they became mainstream. The aughts was when the market became oversaturated.

The golden age was in the 80s and the golden era of hip hop was the 90s. When I mean the 90s I mean the early to mid 90s.

I recall the 'rapping craze' of 1980 when a number of bands jumped on the bandwagon following the Sugarhill Gang's 'Rappers Delight'. Records such as the Tom Tom Club's 'Wordy Rappinghood', 'Wikka Rap' by the Evasions and 'Rapture' by Blondie hit the charts then. And many of us would have heard 'Christmas Rapping' by the Waitresses during the past few weeks. What really raised the bar were the likes of the New York DJ and his assistants, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five who introduced the art of mixing and scatching and thus hip-hop was really born.

    90's. <3
80's was awesome too, but a lot of my favorite rappers come from the 90's so I'm going with that. ._.
