Is This Movie Too Much Like 'Twilight'?

"Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke is moving on to new things, but it looks like she's having a hard time breaking out of the "Twilight" mold she created in 2008.

Her latest movie, "Red Riding Hood," has nothing to do with v ampires, but judging by the film's teaser, she simply copied and pasted several of the most memorable scenes from "Twilight" and replaced the main characters.

For instance, one scene in the "Red Riding Hood" teaser looks like a recreation of the scene in "Twilight" where Bella and Edward are having a conversation in a forest with the sun filtering through the trees. And as MTV notes, the main characters--who even look a bit like Bella and Edward--face away from each other when they're talking. Just like "Twilight."

Other striking similarities include landscape shots, love triangles, snow-bound love scenes and dancing around fires. And that's just from the teaser.

It may not sound like much, but considering the movies have the same director, Hardwicke's creativity will certainly be called into question. Following the unprecedented success of "Twilight," it looks like she's banking too hard on that film's technique to make her another hit.

Catherine Hardwicke use to be my favorite director. She made the movie "Thirteen" and "The Lords Of Dogtown" but since she directed Twilight i feel that she gave up on her own personal style to make teen sappy love story crap. This is what happen when you stop doing what you love and start trying to make a lot of money. I have not seen "Red Riding Hood" but from the reviews Ive seen I stand d by my word.

Well. Although the trailer looks awfully similar to Twilight (I believe the soundtrack will be in the same genre..), I just hope the movie won't become like Twilight. Amanda is an amazing actress with a lot of potential. I just hope she will not be titled as 'second bella'. That's a waste for a good actress like her. I don't know about the other actors but let's just hope they'll be good.

So she has a love triangle,a wolf,and a few scenes that remind you of "Twilight", plently of movies have love triangels, some have love sqares(She's The Man), mythcial creatures,and scenes that are based off other movies. Calm down,and give it a chance.

It does look like Twilight, but Idgaf because Twilight was an amazing movie. I would go see this movie opening weekend just because it's looks like Twilight! Wait to go, Catherine Hardwicke! You did a great job, whether you basically remade Twilight or not!

The werewolf is the big bad wolf in Little Red Riding Hood and it killed people. But it kinda resembles Twilight but o' well if it had a GREAT PLOT then I look forward to watching it.

honestly?!?!?! i mean come on. y is evrything these days being compared to twilight?!?! twilight was not the first vampire love story people!!! it ddnt even come out before vampire diaries! vampire diaries jst waited longer to get a show on tv! its not even that good of a plot line! the vampire/werewoulf world does not need to revolve around twilight!

So there are a few similarities between the two. It's not this is the first time.

Its too bad that Twilight takes and ruins a lot of things... Taylor Laughtner could have been a better actor had that horrible franchise not grabbed him and sucked him in. Same thing with Hardwicke, I have a feeling her career is only going to spiral down from this point.

actually people are saying her career is going higher than ever before. its becuz a bunch of teenage girls hav fallen in love with this mythical creature named edward and has made it all into a huge deal. therefor everything and everyone involved is going to hav a pick up in their career. i mean look at robert pattinson he looks like a hobo they picked up off the side of the road! he doesnt wash his ahir for crying out loud! and kristen stuart! her career was about to hit rock bottom before twilight.

She never really had a career before Twilight. And now that she did that Joan Jett movie, her career is spiraling downward again. People who have been fans of Joan Jett since before the teens that like Twilight were even born, hated that movie and think its a huge joke.

My dads sister and her friends went and saw it, mind you they are in their 40's. They thought it was a joke. My aunt loves Joan Jett, but she hated that movie.

The only similarity i see here is an enchanting forest, an awkward looking fellow with hair, in neutral grey clothes, while a beautiful women stands next to him with a white dress.

Also known as the beginning to all fairy tales in existence because people have insanely bad fantasy stories, which is the reason I personally do not read any of them.

There do seem to be similarities...I just hope Hardwicke can improve. Her "Twilight" kind of...how do I put this?...sucked. If she ruins this, I'll be mad. It looks like an interesting concept, and I like the cinematography so far- the red is very striking. And it looks like it's going to be something quite different from the traditional Red Riding Hood story we've all heard.

Not at all. The similarities that I see from the trailer are the mountain shots, the music style, and the awkwardness. Seem's way more creative and way more entertaining.

this movie looks promising. still wonder why it was compared to twilight though. whats going on really? all movies from now on that features vamps or werewolves/lycans are gonna be compared to twilight? oh best tension in romance movies are those derived from love triangles. twilight was not the first and as you can see, will not be the last.

Agree. Love triangles have been an angst/romance staple for a long, long time. The "Twilight" comparison is to be expected, and the forest scene is disturbingly similar, but the vision looked very different. The teaser looked much darker than "Twilight's" cotton candy vamp story.
