A massive storm system was marching toward the Northeast on Wednesday, upending post-Christmas travel plans after dumping snow and sleet on the middle of the country on Christmas Day and producing tornadoes through the South.

The storm, which stretches from Michigan to Florida, has been blamed for six deaths so far. As the storm moves from the Tennessee Valley to the Mid-Atlantic, heavy snowfall, tornadoes and significant icing are possible, the National Weather Service said.

I had problems flying out of Dulles Airport, my flight was to come out of JFK/New York, that plane never arrived, I had to switch to another gate and depart hours later. I am soooooooooooo glad to be home. Although when I touched down in Detroit, Michigan, driving was not good, they had lots of snow.

A couple of years ago we drove through WV when it had 31" of snowfall. Abandoned vehicles, from trucks to cars, littered the interstate that was closed. We had to take back roads. We were in a very capable built vehicle.

Yes! I had planned on traveling from my house to work at 7am on Boxing Day since I work at a retail store and everything Christmas was going on sale! So instead of going into work, I got to stay at home, play in the snow and take plenty of pictures to share on facebook. I'm really happy the snow disrupted MY travel plans! ;)

When you don't have any travel plans to begin with, then weather can't do much
to interrupt your travel plans. Unfortunately for me, fianancial constraints have
put a damper on most, if not all of any travel oppertunities for me.

Even if the snow had hit around here (it didn't; was forecast for "100% chance of snow" on Xmas Day and... zip, zero, zilch), it wouldn't have affected my "travel plans" since they were composed of

Bedroom to kitchen to living room to dining room to living room... etc.

(Family dropped in for visit/Xmas dinner, etc.. Was good. Their travel plans weren't negatively impacted either, since all live within 30 miles of us.)

My Silverado has 4-wheel drive and about 15 inches of clearance under the axles, so it has to get pretty deep before my travel is interrupted.

I work online so I don't have to commute anyway. I actually took my car for its annual emissions test this morning in the early part of the snow, and then to the grocery store half an hour later. We were just on the edge of the storm here in northern VA, so while we did get enough snow to prevent me from running outside yesterday, I'm pretty sure it's all gone and I'll be able to run outside this afternoon--if I want to brave the wind. :-D

I grew up in Maine, I'm use to driving in snowstorms and blizzards.

If you can drive in Northern Maine in a blizzard, you can drive anywhere. The closest thing to a plow some of those road see, is sunlight and tires.

I don't live in the Northeast, nor will be planning to travel there anytime soon. However, my mom's cousin and his girlfriend are visiting his sister in Illinois and I'm kinda worried about them getting back to Massachusetts.

I had to call off work today due to the snow and ice. Now I won't get my holiday pay for Christmas. =/ I wasn't risking having an accident though.
