Is The NBA Season Lost?

Well, it's official. The National Basketball Association has canceled the first two weeks of the regular season, due to stalled negotiations between owners and the players association. This controversial move by NBA Commissioner David Stern furthers the possibility that the entire 2011-12 season might be lost.

This is the first time games have been lost, since the 1998-99 season, which was only 50 instead of the regular 82. Back then, the NBA was coming off of Michael Jordan's final season as a Chicago Bull and looked to ride the legend's momentum with the new generation of stars. Instead, that momentum stalled due to the lockout.

Similarly, the NBA is coming off of a red-hot postseason that featured an exciting Finals series between the Dallas Mavericks and All-Star squad Miami Heat. NBA players have not reacted well to Stern's cancellation. Here is what some players had to say via Twitter:

J.J. Redick: Obviously disappointed and frustrated. Out of my control. This seemed inevitable. Stephen Curry: This sucks. Andrew Bogut: I guess I'm in Australia [home country] a little longer now.

The real losers here are not the players and owners, although both sides are leaving millions of dollars on the table. The real losers in the NBA lockout are basketball's most important people, who pay their hard-earned money for on court action: the fans

And I couldn't be happier, I hope the owners & players remember the FANS are the reason they even have their fricken jobs. And I hope it takes them a long time to win fans back if they ever get back to playing.

they can begin playing at anytime in the near future, but the damage is done. these people are overpaid on both sides of the fence and like football it's all about a pice of the profit pie that we fans are giving, they seem to forget that it is us that pay all their salaries, keep these kinds of things going on the fans will leave, baseball pay attention!

I could care less. I think the fans should go on strike and stop attending the games. These guys make way too much money to be striking. They should be replaced with other players that really want to play. If they did that you would see the players come running back begging for their high paying jobs. If you wanna call it a job.

The NBA is totally screwed now. They are going to lose so many fans and alot of the players may stay in their home countries.

Not yet-because I still think those over paid egos will settle in time to play SOME games like they did in 1998. But I think they're turning off a lot of fans with this action-or lack of it.

It's funny we've got the Wall Street protestors raising hell about CEO's making millions while they employ thousands but giving a pass to all the professional athletes making millions for doing nothing more than playing a game. And who do they make their millions on? Joe Six Pack.

...well at least Joe Six Pack is more accomplished than your average Wall Street protestor.

And I have no sympathy for these greedy bastards. I feel bad for the "normal" people affected - like the people who depend on working at these games, the ushers, vendors, etc.

It isn't lost, but I hope the strike goes on for months. The players are taking advantage of the owners.

It is for me. I love this sport, but this is just stupid. These people are fighting over amounts of money that I will never ever ever...........ever see in my lifetime. Why would I root for either side?? So, I am boycotting this season ( or whatever will be left of it once they are through bickering over $$$$$).

Who cares!!!! The NBA is the worst ran pro sport in the world. And it starts at the top Stern is the WORST commissioner of any pro sport of all time. With Goodell of the NFL a close 2nd. From dirty refs to catering to larger market teams. The NBA is ran horribly!!! The only solution would be to fire ALL league execs, and start from scratch

Overpaid crybaby players, and owners that are greedy as hell!!! Ticket prices are outrageous!!! Add in price of parking and a trip to the concession stand, and not many average families can afford to go to a game. Not to mention the game itself is probably fixed anyways. Hard to imagine a sport dirtier than boxing, but they are in the running for sure. Stern sucks as bad as Don King

A good start would be to ask David Stern to resign!!! He apologizes to business that associate with the NBA but not the fans that make it possible!!! He's a disgrace like the improved ball he tried to endorse. He just wants to line his pockets like everyone else involved. The fans lose like always the fans pay the price, for as.sholes like him to make they're millions

It isn't lost yet. However, the NBA might have not lost the season yet but they have lost a portion of the fanbase already which will only take more of a hit if the lockout isn't ended soon.

They should just start a new league all together. I don't feel sympathy for either side. They'll just try and jack up ticket prices to make up for the lost games
