Is 'The Glee Project' Too Much 'Glee'?

As if having more hit singles than the Beatles wasn't enough, now "Glee" is setting out to conquer the world of reality television with an "American Idol"-esque program that will document tens of thousands of hopeful Gleeks as they attempt to secure a guest spot on the show.

But producer Dante Di Loreto wants to make it clear that "The Glee Project" will not exploit or tear down its contestants in "Idol" fashion.

Reuters quoted him as saying, "We are not trying to make complex challenges that make fun of people. We are not trying to make them jump through hoops without cause. The mentoring process is really key. It is about giving them the tools to be better performers."

The grand prize, a seven-episode spot on the next season of "Glee," got over 40,000 fans to audition. Reuters reports that they've narrowed it down to 85 contestants so far, and will have 12 finalists when the project airs in June.

ok well if you don't like it don't watch it no one really cares... Glee project rocks ultimately not as good as glee but it is just trying to make the show as good as it can be when the original cast "graduate" so suck it up and stop posting negatively about it

Haven't watched it, but I know people who enjoyed it. Doesn't seem to be a bad show or promoting bad things. So hey, go with it.

Oh gee. The whole Glee pandemic that's spreading across the nation is pathetic. Sure, they sound great, but their voices are also altered with. If I have millions of dollars to spend on voice sincronizers I would sound that great too.

Yeah, I've only watched one episode and it basically looks like another teen drama like Degrassi. I don't konw about everyone else, but there's not THAT much drama constantly going on at my school.

It’s just Degrassi with more cheese, and Fame with less talent showcased.
It's also supposed to be funny... but I fail to see that as well.
So, that coupled with the autotune just makes the show a big ball of fail.

I love singing and dancing and they sing preety good!!!
Well, If you dont like it thats up to you I think its awesome! But dont criticise Glee if u dont like it just dont watch it, dont talk trash about them!

Interesing comment. And you know this from what source? I've seen most of the auditions and interviews of the cast. ALL of them have near perfect pitch.

Those singers do not have perfect pitch, first of all, it's sad you even think that. Second of all, I never said said singers were bad. They have some brilliant performers... you just never hear them really sing on Glee. Why? Because all the songs are autotuned to death. The over-production kills what makes their voices so good.

What source, you ask? I've listened to the recordings. They're dreadful, and it's such a waste of the singers' voices.

And, sweetheart, it's not an "interesting" comment, it's just the truth. Forgive me for being someone who would rather not hear a good voice autotuned.

Definitely. I've had enough of the hype that Glee has been getting.

Ask any Glee fan to name as many of the original artists of the songs featured on Glee as possible. No one will get past five.
