Is the fictional word "Homophobe" simply a word used by homosexuals to deflect an argument they find they are losing?

No, not at all. It is a valid term used to describe bigots who let their fear of and contempt for homosexuals blind their rationality.

This reminds me of when someone called me a `racist` because I could see past Obama's lies and celebrity for who he really is. Just a name used by the liberals to scare you from your position because we all must be `Politically Correct`!!

You don't see past his lies, you see past his truth because it is too dangerous to your worldview. You'd have to be humble, reevaluate everything you believe, thats too high a price to pay.

I would say that is accurate. They always try to pull the homphobe card when people don't agree with them. It's simply their way of dealing with rejection.

It is just like Liberals and Blacks who yell "racist" any time they don't get their way.
Most gays know it is abnormal behavior and therefore seek any means possible to justify it and keep others from criticizing them.

-phobe means 'fear'. I am not and have never been afraid of homosexuals.
That is a word made up by the homosexuals that is made to appear that people that don't approve of homosexuality are lashing out because they fear them.
Fear has nothing to do with my stand against this vile act.
Its wrong and will always be wrong. I'll go with God on this one. He's always right.

I really have grown to despise this word, due to over-usage. Many people just shut down, when you have a belief system contrary to theirs, and using that word, is a good way to build walls.

grown despise over-usage people shut belief contrary build walls

It's not a fictional word. It is an actual word and some people do have a phobia of homosexuals. However, I have seen the word over used, used to describe people who do not actually fear homosexuals but rather dislike them.

It's a made up word - didn't exist before those people started doing each other in public, and parents would have to cover their children's eyes and rush them away from the spectacle.
  • Tara Arky in... February 28, 2010 20:51:22

Your logic is flawed. Every word is made up, every word we use was made up by someone at some point. But the fact is, it is an actual word in the English Language and can be found in every dictionary. The word Arachnophobia was not added until 1925 does that mean it's not a real word either, because someone made it up? The dictionary does not add fictional words. Sorry, you may not like it, but it is an actual word, with an actual meaning and can be found in every dictionary.

Your thought process is heavily influenced by your prejudice and emotions. I don't think you are qualified to tell me my logic is flawed.

The word was invented in 1969. Just like I said, it didn't exist before those people started doing each other in public, and parents would have to cover their children's eyes and rush them away from the spectacle.

Ok dude, you run around pretending the word is not in the dictionary, is not really a word and is just someone's made up fantasy. I will stick to actual fact.

Always twisting our words to what you want it to be. I came back and said the word was invented in 1969. How would I know that if I hadn't been to the dictionary?

It remains a fictional word used by homosexuals to deflect an argument they find they are losing. Only little kids need be afraid of them, and I am not a little kid.

In truth, many of us have accepted that this behavior is becoming more public. We can't stop it as a morality issue, and we don't have to accept, endorse, or practice it. Our arguments are never accepted as having validity even though we are the majority and refuse that type of conduct. We allow the homosexuals to do their own thing without hanging them publically, or beating them up, or abusing them in any way. We for the most part ignore them. But they can't seem to accept the fact that they are not another species or gender. They simply have sexual practices that are beyond normal society. Now they want marriage, recognition, and protection.Except for marriage which is a recognized institution for families to have claims on one another, they have every right that I have.So I guess I would be called a homophobe, even though I am not phobic about it.

I think the term is some kind of excuse.
    Like "I hate gays."
    "Woah why?"
    "I'm just homophic!"
Oh ok. Like that makes all the difference. Your riddiculous phobia gives you all the pardon you need to hate them and not get in trouble for it.

Everyone uses words to communicate a thought(s). It all depends on how they are constructed and used. Many just "vent" in disgust, and still others spill hatred in words, which actually proves their own inner weakness.

It's a valid term that some people actually have. If people were more accepting and not ignorant, the word would only be used to descirbe those who truly have a phobia. Also, no homosexual can lose and argument against someone who's not for their rights. Why? Because they're right, and those against their rights are just as bad as being enslaved without rights.

I think some people are unaware of what a phobia is. It means "fear" not "dislike". Granted, some people certainly are exactly what the word "homophobic" means.

No... and maybe it's just me... but I really don't understand how someone ELSE's sexuality is within anyone else's power to argue?!? Wow, if people put this much effort into thinking and reflecting on how they live their own lives rather than how they think everyone ELSE should live theirs... the world would be a warmer place. Can't we all just get along? For the record, I really don't care who ANY of you sleep with, as long as its consentual and makes you both happy.

So tell me. How do you distinguish between those who criticize the gay lifestyle because of its' inherent limitations (as Darwin would argue) and those who you claim fear gay people?

When one has to resort to attacking another's sexuality simply because they lack the intellect to make an intelligent argument, they are more likely than not a homophobe.
