It's always argued that the media influences girls to "be rail thin" or "anorexic," right? So why shouldn't it be argued, rather well actually, that seeing a bunch of girls who went out and got knocked up, only to become famous, makes the idea seem cool to some girls?
Most of the time, you see girls who are pregnant in high school made the butt of cruel rumours or whispered about in the halls when they pass by -- but these girls received fame instead. And realistically, most people wouldn't mind being famous and "known," especially teenage girls.
Not every person is smart enough to realise that by becoming pregnant at such a young age, they permanently change their own lives. Not every person realises that the baby they have will not be a doll they can just set aside or pawn off on their parents (though, alas, some parents do let this happen).
Some may just believe that by becoming pregnant, MTV will swoop down upon their house, armed with legions of reporters and big bucks, to make them, their baby daddy, and their baby stars.
edit: grammar

education.Yeah,I do think this show has a lot to do with why the teen pregnancy rate has gone down.In school, they tell you to use a condom but teens don't get an in-depth look at what it's really like to be a parent so I'm happy there's a show that does that.I'm lucky I didn't get pregnant as a teenager because I very well could have.
and Kim Kardashian needs to sit her ass (no pun intended) down. Last time I check you got famous by havin sex on camera and all you do now is prance around half naked so STFU!!!
It's possible it serves to strengthen one's preexisting beliefs rather than completely form new ones. If a teen wants to have a baby and watches a few shows that, for whatever reason, they may deem to be 'positive' towards teen mothers, it may strengthen the teen's desires to have a baby. If a teen that has no desire to have a baby watches these same shows, they may be more likely to concentrate their attention to the more negative aspects and choose to wait to have a baby.
This isn't just something to do with Teen Mom either- it's all over the media, usually in subconscious ways most of us don't even realize. Take all of the upbeat consequences of pregnancy you see on http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pm.... Now try to come up with shows where pregnancy was portrayed with nuance, ambiguity, and the general message that hey, unplanned pregnancy can really screw up people's lives. It's a pretty darning ratio.
On one hand, the teen did participate in the MTV Teen Mom show. By doing so, she did contribute to making teen-pregancy seem trendy.
But, on the other hand, she was probably manipulated to appear on the show by her by her adult "handlers" - people who work for the show.
What I can't figure out is what got into Kim Kardashian? I mean, this is totally opposite of her public persona. If she can think, and reach those conclusions, there may be hope for this country, after all.
You said it! That's exactly what i think too. It's the pot calling the kettle black. She's not a good influence either. That's why it's up to US to raise our kids and not TV and celebrities.
I saw someone kill another person on tv once. But I didn't think "Oh that's cute, I'm going to do that!"
Because I'm not stupid.
