Is 'scene' ruining metal?

GeeRexForever 2012/02/04 01:08:32
I personally think the British metal genre is awash with 'scene' hardcore bands.
One minute it's heavy then it has some boy band-esque singing on the chorus.
It has diluted the genre metal so much its hard to know whats good anymore.
Plus 'scene' is fashion driven with no ideology and personally i feel it is a fad that i hope will fade out,
You!

    Scene = A Style of Clothing/Appearance.
Metal = A Genre of Music.
People are allowed to listen to whatever music they want to,
no matter who they are or what they look like, even if they're annoying to you, like Scenes.
Not to be a Troll or anything, but really.
Yes, it can be annoying, seeing kids waltzing around in Metal Gear.
But that's their problem, and it shouldn't be yours, no matter how irritating.

It's improved it. I like metal more for that reason.
    Metal by itself = boring.

see the strange thing is i have seen metal heads help up others up when downed in a mosh pit. scene kids i have seen at gigs have been too arrogant to care.

Does it matter? If you like the music, listen to it, if not, don't. Who cares what they are wearing or what genera they are?

Just in the sense that kids in the "scene" are starting to call deathcore bands such as BMTH metal I guess. It doesn't really bother me though because I just listen to what I like x)

I just wanted hard pressed Metallers opinions on how the new wave of (core's) affected the way metal was perceived. In no way was i diggin' at any band in particular everyone can like what they wish and dress as they wish. Some people are getting edgy on me, all im saying is...it is what it is...but it aint metal. :D

Aha I understand, I'm no metal expert but when I think of the genre bands such as Slayer, Mastodon, Iron Maiden, Death, and Megadeth come to mind. I think it's kind of weird calling the new core bands "metal", it just doesn't feel right. x)

agree...Most singers of new metal bands sound like children trying to scream/growl. Its sort of pathetic. BMTH is one of them. They might be a legitimate metal band if the singer wasn't so weak.

Yeah you hit the nail on the head there really, and the person who mentions all those bands on the list i personally wouldnt pin down as metal. Can't say i value their taste in music that much then i guess haha :P

I don't think it is...Most of the people that listen to the stuff under the "scene" moniker are children. Its 2012's version of nu-metal...it will die out soon enough. Metal has been strong for 30 years and its a legitimate genre. There will always be sub-genres that will change with whats popular in high schools. This happens to be what the "cool" kids are listening to. P.S...I just bought my Meshuggah, Decapitated and Baroness tickets. Now...that's some metal.

You= Clearly missed the point. it was a question, im talking about the music makers mainly. As you said the kids are their own problem.

Plus look at my opinion below the question, i draw your attention to "'scene' hardcore bands" not the listeners. And the 'scene' bands out there sound different to Metal and you know it, please don't draw that card.

Yea so they can grow up to become hipsters in their early 20s and switch from listening to Nu-metal to obscure genres like Skramz, easycore, and folk. Frankly i'm for both metal and core/death genres but they are not the same and any 150lb kid who claims to be "br00t4l" for listening to it needs a reality check.

I suppose, I don't connect the two really, as they don't sound very similar. Also it may or may not die out. For example Green Day isn't punk but has been labeled that for years and years. I can see it go either way.

Just call whoever it is out(typically kids from like 14-18) and show them what the real stuff is. It's hardly comparable and metal(heavy, thrash, etc) just sounds a lot meaner. Once again I've showed people Green Day vs Minor Threat or Black Flag and they've never said anything back after my little speech and example.

i totally agree, and i agree with you about Green Day, i dont like them too im more of a Rancid, Clash, The Damned type of guy :)
