There's no doubt that Rihanna works her sex appeal -- but she may be a little too sexy for Nivea. Rihanna began appearing in ads for the skincare company last year, in celebration of the brand's 100th anniversary. But the head of Nivea's new parent company, Beiersdorf, told German media that the R & B songstress should have been a "no go" for the brand, according to The Daily Mail.
"The advert starring Rihanna was a no go. I do not understand how Nivea can be brought into association with Rihanna. Nivea is a company which stands for trust, family and reliability," Stefan Heidenreich reportedly said. In one of Rihanna's Nivea ads, a family moisturizes with Nivea while Rihanna's sexy song "California King Bed" plays in the background.
But last year, the company -- a sponsor of Rihanna's world tour -- was singing a different tune. "Rihanna is a music icon and her digital footprint will help us bring our anniversary celebration to consumers wherever they are," Nivea board member Markus Pinger said in a press release. Maybe a little too trashy for Nivea, but definitely not too sexy.
