British post-punk band The Vaccines made headlines recently when guitarist Freddie Cowan claimed Rihanna isn't a real artist. His argument, as stated to Digital Spy, was "she has 15 writers, 15 songwriters and 15 producers all fighting for space on her albums and she's the face of it."

    Crap, I meant to put no... No, I do believe that since she does not write her won music, she is not an artist. Art conveys a part of the artist's soul, that art is a piece of who they are, and that is especially true with real music. However, when you lose that, it's no longer art, and if it's no longer art, your no longer an artist, just a performer. Music is a piece of the writer, when it's real music.

    She is attractive, has a good singing voice, and terrible taste in women beating men. So if any of those fit the criteria of an "artist" then maybe she is.

    i'm not a big fan of rihanna as a persona......i don't think she has that much personality..she doesn't write her own songs,she mostly sells sex(at least a lot more than she used to)but i like and listen to a lot of her songs...she is a good pop singer.i prefer her than others

    No real talent, she is all hype. I have been watching this continuous downward spiral of American pop music since the 80s. Janet Jackson was the first to break thru with this terrible trend. Its all about the spice now, no meat.

    She is an Artist. Art comes in many ways. And lets face it, Most Artist today don't really write their own songs/music, as they use to before. Only a couple of them do. And even though she isn't the greatest, she still is pretty good to be able to get paid, and have fans.

    You need to fail first, to actually be good. and I'm with you though, she isn't the best...but you know she has some talent there that catches most peoples' attentions. That's all I'm saying.
