Your display, could qualify you as a design artist...it speaks nothing of your talent at it!

If I made the display yes, lets say I didn't though. I am not trying to argue her talent, just that she isn't an artist.

Maybe you're misunderstanding me...I think she's an artist w/NO TALENT! As are many artists of all types!

Perhaps not by profession but you painted something. Whether it's good or bad in my opinion doesn't matter. I think what people here don't realize is that performing IS an art. Her art isn't in songwriting. That doesn't make her not an artist because her talent isn't in one particular thing. I can't play sports for my life but I am good at other things. Likewise, she doesn't/can't write songs, she's an artist BECAUSE she's good at other things.

Performing is only an art if you CREATED the performance. Otherwise, its Karaoke. Which is what she does.

Lip Syncing into a microphone, and dancing to something someone else choreographed for you, doesn't make you an artist in the slightest. Its the very definition of an entertainer.

Exactly, entertainer. Which is an art. And as a dancer, I take serious offense to that. Unless you've spent hours of your life in a studio, training until you ache everywhere, constantly practicing routines over and over to perfection, you're really not qualified to say that that doesn't make you an artist. How useful is a choreographer without a dancer to show off their work. How useful is a songwriter who can't sing without a singer to put their songs out there. We all have our talents. Not having one doesn't make you less of an artist. It just means you have a different art.

Being an Entertainer, does not make you an artist. As much as you wish it does.

You can flip your flimsy argument pretty quickly, how useful is a dancer without a choreographer?

Pretty useful as most choreographers are former dancers. And I'm not saying choreography isn't an art. I'm saying they are both equally artistic. They need each other. Most choreographers are dancers that have been booted out by younger dancers. It is a physically demanding field and there's not a whole lot of career longevity in it.

I said before and I'll say it again. Entertaining is an art in and of itself.

Artists don't necessarily do everything... Look at Hollywood. I consider Ellen Barkin an actress even though she only reads words written by someone else and acts in a way directed by someone else.

God damn computer!!!!! I clicked NO. She is just a face on stage, and quite frankly, not a great one in my opinion. She doesnt make any of her music.

Should have voted no. All the woman does well is sell herself. Sure hope she is investing wisely, because when her looks are gone, her so called talent goes with it!

She used to have some good music and now.... it's trash. and her style? fails too. sorry but I think she sucks now, doesn't write her own music nor play any instruments and is just handed money, then again, alot of celebrities are and I've seen music ALOT worse than hers. Honestly, I don't think any pop artist has credibility anyway. Even if they co-write their songs. Now if they write all their songs, lyrics and music by themselves....and arrange it (preferably...but that is getting picky)...then sure they are artists, but most are just part of a music industry machine.

I think people would be surprised at how many artists do not write their own songs. Why does some have to write and sing to be an artist?

There and were plenty of great writers that couldn't spell, Faulkner for example, who couldn't spell very well. Did that lack of talent make them any less of a storyteller?

That's a bad comparison. Writers with poor grammar are still artists because they're inability doesn't interfere with their creative process. Rihanna has a great voice but you need more than that to be an artist.

First, I am no fan of Rhianna so I'm taking her side to support her. Would you call Elton John an artist? Would you call Adel and artist? The don't write their own songs.

Performance is an art in and of itself.

I would accept the argument that her albums aren't really "hers", though. With a lot of singers, it seems like it's the producers vision and whatever they say goes. But, not really a new trend there.

Very interesting subject does a vocalist/singer need to write his or her own songs in order to be a real artist?

Many obviously think they do but throughout history we have had people that have a knack for writing songs but can't sing even in the shower and people that cannot write a single music note but can sing with the angels to say that a good singer is not an artist is just about the same thing as saying a good composer who cannot sing is not a real artist, it is simply a very incorrect and downright unfair way to see artists.


Some people excel at one thing and others at another thing that's it.

I don't find she has the natural talent for being a songwriter and singer. If she wrote it, and it had even just a LITTLE depth then there would be room for an argument. She makes money from it, good job for selling someone elses work.

Yes because.......... she has 15 writers, 15 songwriters and 15 producers all fighting for space on her albums and she's the face of it
The people complaining are normally nowhere near where she is on the Billboard charts so get over it!!
