how can this possibly be a debate. Firstly to be an artist you need to be true to yourself, everything (especially in music) is an expression of your feelings, views and passions. This women does not do anything but prance around stage in her underwear and 'sing'. She is clearly just a money grabbing over sexed, stupid children's entertainer.

The fact of the matter is she is a FAKE, i do not BELIEVE in what she is saying.

If you write, then you are a writer. If you sing, you're a singer. To be an artist, I think you have to your hand in crafting as many aspects of your music as possible. Guitarists may write one part for a band, but the overall input is collaborative, so the guitarist technically has a part in helping the drums, bass, and vocals as they are all shaped into making a song, and the musicians that take part in creating as well as performing those pieces are artist. So, personally, I don't think just doing one or the other really cuts it these days. You can't really call her creative if she isn't the one who is technically creating her music.

No, she is not a real artist. She can sing and she is talented in her own right but she is more of an entertainer especially with how provocative she dresses.

Being an artist implies creation, even her image isn't self created so even as a fan I can't call her an artist. She is an entertainer, a really good one.

(I haven't heard many of her songs) Nearly all of the songs I've heard sung by her are pretty pointless and I don't enjoy her voice.

Rihanna is an entertainer. What's new about the concept of people doing other's people work? Entertainment has always had many roles. How many actors write their own screen plays? Few runway models design clothes but they are in the fashion industry. Does a song writer need to play an instrument to write hit songs? It helps but they do not require the ability to play an instrument to write. Has anyone heard of the Vaccines? Are they very popular and doing well? I think that is origination of the comment.
