Is New York City the Capital of Country Music?

I live in new York hell yes

Of course NY is going to have the highest sales of country music. It's the largest and most populated city in North America.

So NYC had the highest country music sales. Ok. That makes sense. NYC is one of the richest AND most densely populated areas. NYC is HUGE and they are a powerhouse for all markets.

But, I wonder, if we analyzed by sales per 10k population, does anyone still want to bet that NYC is #1? Normalize data by population and you'll see much different results.

those figures are about sales, not musical production and would hardly qualify NYC as the capital of country music. Naturally they will sell more there because of the higher rate of population, and Los Angeles is another highly populated area and is probably second or third in musical production. Austin is another big area.

No, NYC is a major metropolitan and thus has a lot dwellers. More dwellers equals more sales frequency. Nielsen of all firms should be aware of this. Then again, they just gather the data it's up to the marketers to manipulate it through communication.

Sales mean nothing. Yes, people in cities can like country music all they want and buy it all they want, but it has nothing to do where it came from.

NYC has the highest country music sales because of the following factors A) It's the largest city in the USA so it's sales data would be higher than smaller cities if you only look at raw data and ignore the per capita data. B) Lots of foreigners come to the meca melting pot called New York City for various reasons and country is weirdly popular outside of the United States. C) A large city like NYC often makes one long for pieces of home (for those not native New Yorkers that is) and country music fulfills this nostalgia trip for many of the non-native New Yorkers because it reminds them of home. However New York is far from the capital of country music because A) It doesn't represent the country culture of farming, rural living, dusty and lonely backroads, redneck behavior, and small towns. B) I don't know of any country artist every coming out the NYC music scene nor any contributions the town has had on country music. Nashville is the country music capital and always will be.
