Lena Dunham has done what few, if any, young women have done before. Not only has the actress become America’s new sweetheart, but she created, writes, produces directs -- oh, and stars in -- her hit show “Girls.”
The HBO series shocked Hollywood’s elite last weekend when the edgy sitcom beat out “The Big Bang Theory,” “Episodes,” “Smash” and three-time Emmy-winner “Modern Family” for a Golden Globe for Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy.
Perhaps even more surprising was Dunham’s victory for a Globe over previous "It Girl" Zooey Deschanel and more established actresses like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Clearly, Dunham is striking a nerve by representing the imperfect, disenfranchised millennial generations. And as she said in her Golden Globe acceptance speech, she was dedicating her award to every woman that’s felt as though "there wasn’t a space for her." It sure does seem like they’re listening now.
The 26-year-old is currently writing a book, for which she inked a $3.5 million deal. Plus, she just announced that she’s working on a TV pilot with “Girls” Executive Producer Jenni Konner about a personal shopper in New York. And filmmaker Diabolo Cody has dubbed her “our new Woody Allen.” Do you think Lena Dunham is the voice of this generation?

Oh the fat chick that takes her clothes off?
For once I have to agree with Howard Stern.
And FYI, Entertainment Weekly and other media outlets, a naked, non-size 0 woman eating a whole cake isn't exactly an original concept.
Deadwood, Rome...and Girls? If she is the voice of her generation, I feel sorry for them.
You need certain qualities and sensitivity to become that.
Just a bunch of narcissistic, drama-queen millennials who have successful parents but have accomplished NOTHING with their own lives....depressed and crabbing how dissatisfied they are that the reality of their lives don't match up with the "sex-in-the-city" fantasies. Throw in abortion, drugs, casual sex, gay relationships, money problems, the word "F*CK" in every other sentence and you've got this hot mess that HBO has been hyping.
