Just before Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Kevin Durant faced elimination in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, he got served -- with court papers. One of Durant's nicknames besides "awesome" and "one of the best players in the NBA" is the catchy "Durantula." But, according to Chicago-based heavy metal guitarist Mark Durante, he is the real "Durantula" -- and the rocker is suing to maintain that right.
Durante claims that he has warned Durant and Nike multiple times about using the nickname, as it's used on merchandise and most importantly, to make money. As stated in the lawsuit, Durante has been using the nickname "Durantula" since 1993. That's back when Durant was like, five. What hurt Durant's defense is, besides the length of time Durante has owned the trademark, the guy also has a website called durantula.com.
If you think Durante is being unreasonable or trying to get extra cash from a multimillionaire NBA player, you may be sadly mistaken. Durante's Durantula.com site even claims that back in 1978, he and his friends formed a band called Public Enemy and that the actual, world-famous Public Enemy hip-hop group later "borrowed" their name. In your opinion, who is the real "Durantula": Kevin Durant or our heavy metal rocker friend?

- Eugene M 2012/06/25 13:24:15Yes+1YES AND NO! Their original "Durantula" in their respective fields. However, I do see where there could be confusion when discussing Durantula. For instance: "Durantula did it!" Which one did it? It does seem to make a difference.reply
