I'm almost certain you know who Johnny Depp is. He's played many iconic roles, such as Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane, Sweeney Todd, and his most famous to date: Captain Jack Sparrow.

But recently a bunch of people on the internet have been criticizing Johnny's acting, claiming that it's "repetetive" and "overrated." I'm surprised to find just how many people actually think this. After all, Johnny is one of the most famous actors in exsistence. I myself am very fond of his acting, but I want your opinion:

"Overrated" is often confused with "popular." And Johnny definitely deserves to be popular.

He is extremely attractive and probably gets a lot of attention for that fact. However! He is also a very good actor who is able to successfully portray a wide variety of characters, and that's more important. So no, he isn't overrated.

He loves to play dark characters, so some people see him as having limited range. However, his creativity is phenomenal. Compare the roles....Don Juan Demarco, Sweeney Todd (he sings!), Edward Scizzorhands, and, more recently...The Tourist. His comedic talents are evident in Jack Sparrow. Alice in Wonderland was great, IMHO. If you think he's overrated....go to other movies more to your taste, but I enjoy his work.

not exactly. i can rly only watch him in pirates of the carribean cuz other movies with him in them seem kinda dull and without a real plot (i seriously couldnt stand him in the tourist)

No way is he over-rated. His acting is amazing. Sweeney Todd, Pirates of the carribean, Edward scissorhands, Not only in those but so much more does he display is amazing talents.

I think he is very good at what he does. He really sells his characters. He chooses roles based on whether he likes them, not whether they'll be popular. Some roles, like Scissor-hands, have huge cult following. Others, like Sparrow, are VERY popular. There are other spectacular roles he's played that get lost, like "Finding Neverland" and "Benny Joon" though.

I don't think he's over rated.

I like most movies he's been in, and I think that's why I can say I don't think he's over-rated; even the horrible "Cry-Baby" I love.

He does what he wants. Most people don't have that option. I love all his characters. The only movie I didn't see was the one with Jolie in it because I can't stand watching her for more then 30 seconds.

How is his acting even remotely "repetitive" ? I didn't even realize he was the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland until the end credits! As a fellow actor, I'd have to say his characterizations are brilliant. He is a true talent, and the only people I have ever seen criticize him are overly jaded film critics, and there is nothing that could please them.

I really don't want to comment on his acting, I haven't seen enough of his movies to know and so many people say he's an amazing actor. Looks-wise though, I think he's HIGHLY overrated!? Just my opinion, please don't hate me everyone.

He is just my kind of talent. And a true actor. He loves it for the craft and is uncomfortable with all the fame. One of my friends worked with him on Pirates of the Caribbean and he said he was so nice to every person working on the movies. I believe it.

He's so popular for a reason. I've enjoyed his acting in every movie I've seen him in. And no, he doesn't always play the same character, although his acting style is recognizable.
